I wouldn't hold my breath. Last I saw he was contemplating retirement.

I would imagine we'll never see him pitch again.

Hampton will retire after the Braves decline his $20 million 2009 option and the Rockies pay the $6 million buyout. There's no reason for him to quit before he gets the money and his health just keeps on getting worse and worse.

It really is unfortunate.

I mean its not like he wants to be injured. I feel sorry for the guy.

Hampton is a disgrace to the Atlanta franchise. We payed him all that money, and he hasn't even thrown one pitch for us...

Mike Hampton threw off a mound on Tuesday for the first time since leaving a Minor League rehab start on April 30 with discomfort in his left pectoral muscle. After the bullpen session, the oft-injured left-hander said that if he experiences no immediate setbacks, he could return by the All-Star break in mid-July.

Hampton threw 25 pitches without incident, and felt good after the session. He has been on the 15-day disabled list since April 3 with a strained left pectoral muscle.

"It went well," said Hampton, who threw only four-seam fastballs at reduced effort. "I feel good about it."

Hampton will throw again off a mound in two days, and if all goes well, will begin mixing in off-speed pitches next week.

"He's a ways off," Braves manager Bobby Cox said.

sounds like he could be back sometime this season....

With Smoltz on the shelf now it would be great to have any sort of contribution from him, even if only in spot starts.

I heard today on the radio that Mike should be back right after the All-Star break.

He would give us some depth with the rotation.

During last nights game they said Mike threw some in the bullpen before the game.
