The trade deadline is approaching fast and Atlanta doesn't look like a true contender. How would you improve the team and who are some of the players you would like to see shipped out?

What’s the deal at the deadline?

So, we are approaching a critical time for general managers in New York and Los Angeles, Cleveland and Detroit, Milwaukee and Atlanta. Particularly in New York and L.A., where, respectively, the Mets seemingly have lost their way and the Dodgers haven’t done a thing in 20 years.

There are others, in places such as Seattle and Colorado, where passed alarm many weeks back, where mere dismay would go a long way toward lightening the mood.

Little is concrete in mid-June. But, in an unusual season in which big-city payrolls are out and surprise mid-season competency in St. Petersburg, Miami, Oakland and St. Louis is in, clubs already are maneuvering toward the non-waiver trading deadline, still more than a month away.

Not three months into the schedule, the Rockies are fielding inquiries about left fielder Matt Holliday, the Indians about C.C. Sabathia, the Pittsburgh Pirates about Jason Bay and Xavier Nady and the Mariners – eventually – about anything that isn’t bolted to the clubhouse floor, including, possibly, Erik Bedard. Cincinnati Reds general manager Walt Jocketty is expected to make Ken Griffey Jr. and Adam Dunn available, and Ben Sheets could come free in Milwaukee, as could Greg Maddux, Brian Giles and Randy Wolf in San Diego.

And while the only trade that appears remotely imminent is new issues for old crises in New York, scenarios are developing in which some of the game’s signature franchises – the Yankees, Mets, Dodgers, Cardinals, Cubs, Braves and maybe even the Giants – should be among the more active teams at the deadline, joined in the fray by the surprisingly capable Rays and Marlins.

Braves trade minor league catcher to Indians

Braves traded Class AAA Richmond catcher Sal Fasano to the Indians for a player to be named. The 36-year-old had hit .193 with two home runs and nine RBIs in 26 games since signing with the Braves as a minor-league free agent.

I doubt Ben Sheets gets traded, and if we don't resign Teix - I think thats who we go after in the offseason.

The 680 the fan Mark said Scott Boras works for him and not the other way around. He assured that if he leaves it's on him and only him. He also said that he's been renting a house since he's been a Brave.

That tells me that he's never liked it enough here to actually purchase a house of his own. That also makes me not feel very positive about the future with Atlanta as he doesn't know himself. Maybe I'm just over thinking.

braves trade mark teixeira & kelly johnson
orioles trade brian roberts & jeremy guthrie (& maybe aubrey huff/kevin millar)

I think the Braves should stand pat for a moment, but if they don't get hot, I wouldn't mind a small firesale. Since the streak ended, this franchise has been hovering around the middle of the pack. The guys I would look to move are Tex (since he most likely won't resign), Kotsay and a veteran middle reliever with the most value. This doesn't mean to blow it up because the Braves have some good young pieces, but more like becoming fully invested in the retooling process.

At this point it's probably just best to keep Mark unless a team is willing to give us a handful of prospects that will have a bright future. I thought we would receive a first round pick from whatever team Mark signs with, but from 680 the fan said will receive two first round picks for him, so if that's the case were most likely better off keeping him for the rest of the season.

ESPN said Mark is officially on the trading block. They also said that the BoSox and Angels are showing interest.

nice trade, kotchman is already solid at 25 years old and has the potential to be at tex's level in the near future, plus he's signed through 2011....this stephen marek guy is rated the #6 prospect in the angels system and is supposed to be a good reliever when he gets up here....
