Solid trade for a 2.5 season rental. Unless he proves he's worth keeping for the 2012 season. :o

3 years/$15.75M (2009-11), plus 2012 club option

* 3 years/$15.75M (2009-11), plus 2012 club option
o signed extension with Pittsburgh 2/17/09 (avoided arbitration, $3.8M-$2.75M)
o $1.5M signing bonus
o 09:$2M, 10:$4.5M, 11:$6.5M, 12:$10.65M club option ($1.25M buyout)

He has some power, some speed, and solid defense. He is basically Schafer, Blanco, and Anderson all rolled into 1.

Now we just need to work on those CO positions.

As a Pirate fan, I think the Braves easily robbed the Buccos. McLouth was starting to play better and I don;t think last season was a fluke for him. Has speed, a very good arm, covers good field in center and hits for power. Enjoy watching him play.

having a guy locked up for 3.5 years is not really a rental

Johnny, I doubt we accept his club option for the 2012 season. I just can't imagine the Braves ownership paying Nate 10 million that season unless he proves he's an all-star. I only expect Nate to be here for two full seasons.

the braves will have new owners by then. i thought the current owners just had to hold onto the braves for X amoount of years for tax purposes. as they obviously have no interest in owning htem and was just part of a corporate deal.

I believe it's 10 years. It's unclear if Liberty Media plans on owning the team or not as I have yet to hear anything about them selling. I didn't like the idea of them owning from the beginning. They have however spent money and have pursue some key free agents.
