I'm actually going to stand up for future here because he's right. Manny was one of the best right handed hitters in history but he is 35, losing power, and his body is falling apart. That's NORMAL for 35 year olds not shooting HGH into his dong. Manny is still a very good hitter but at $20 million? Come on, I'd rather just go out and sign Miggy Cabrera in a few years when he hits the FA market and give him a Manny sized contract. At least his contract will carry him through his prime. Manny has one more year in Boston and then he's out. And ti will be best for everyone if he does. mahalo

Manny, if he doesnt retire after his contract runs out, wont need any more cash, hes loaded, FOREVER. if he keeps playing, why wouldnt we want the best right-handed bat n the LAST HALF-CENTURY?!?!? if he takes a 3-yr 30-40 mil contract we would be completely tarded to not sign him. there isnt a better outfielder in all of MLB(IMhomeristicO) that we could sign to take his place. put people around him, dont replace him

Thank god you're not running this team. Because that line of thinking is what brought us immortal seasons like Andre Dawson 1993

I can't even fathom how bad Manny's defense will be in three years. His defense already takes away so much of his offensive value that he's not even remotely worth his current salary. If you can get out of it and apply the money elsewhere you do it.

I wasn't saying bring him back...I'm just stating that saying "good riddance" is (Please Use More Appropriate Word).
"The guy is an idiot," Pedroia said regarding Cabrera. "I dropped my bat. It kind of freaked me out. I was upset they took him out of the game. He is good to hit. He's 9-15. The guy [stinks]."

do you actually watch Manny play the field?
hes one of the most underrated fielders in the majors. . obviously, he has his "moments" but outside of 3-5 plays per year, hes a great outfielder

He plays the wall well...but that's about it.

Uh, about 90% give or take. Just like every year.

How many games have you watched.

Nice try though.

really?!?!?! what does Drew have Manny doesnt? besides a LITTLE more range.

and, just like you, ive watched 140+ games this year. he had an off-year. hell have 35+ next year and over a .300 avg imo. would you rather them give JD a 5yr-70mil or a 36yr old Manny 3yr-40mil??

Range, arm, better routes to balls, can be a bit cautious as to not let balls get by him into the RF corner.

So basically everything it takes to be a fielder.

Like BBJ says, Manny does at least an average job (if not a tick above average) at Fenway Park because he plays the wall the correct way, shallow. He takes away a lot of hits that would fall between LF and SS/3rd and everything off the wall would be off the way regardless of how deep he plays.

We aren't talking about offense. Everyone knows that Manny at 75% is better offensively than Drew at 100% but we are discussing defense. You specifically said that Manny is a GREAT defensive player and you are completely, absolutely wrong. He is in no way shape or form a great defensive player. He is passable at Fenway in LF but he's bad everywhere else. mahalo

LMAO... that statement right there is 5X stupider than anything i would ever say, i spout stupid stuff. Manny covers zero ground in the left field at Fenway, he stands about 5 (overexageration) because he knows if the ball goes by him its just gonna roll up to the wall and at worst a double happens. In a big OF, Manny is toast. He has zero range and he gets lost in the OF. When that happens, Manny starts to drop flyballs and misplay balls.
