Trade deadline.

Post#1 » by Celtics_Champs » Wed Jul 16, 2008 3:44 pm

Coming up soon. Do you think the sox will make a move?

Rumored names are Mark Texiera. I don't know where he would fit though. And if we do get this guy it is a sign that ortiz is hurting. Not a good sign. And I would not want to do the Youk and Hansen for Texiera deal, but thats just me.

It seems, like always, we will try to bolster our bullpen. Who is out there though?

I am just going to throw this name out there. Jack Wilson. I think the sox should get in on that sweepstakes with lugo out for 4-6 weeks.

The pen is an obvious place for improvement but relief pitchers are such fungible players that it’s not really worth the prospects to land one.

As far as SS go: Jeff Keppinger. Who cares if he has suboptimal range and a marginal glove? Dude can hit.

No more trades with Texas.

Jed Lowrie can hit. And field. And the Red Sox have a very easy schedule and can kind of coast into the playoffs at this point (as much as any team can 'coast' into the playoffs in July).

Mark Teixeira. No.
Relief pitchers. No. Never. Ever. Ever. Ever. Ever. All it takes is one guy in this bullpen to pull his head out of his ass for a couple weeks in October, which sounds kind of likely with the amount of talent there in Okajima, Delcarmen, Smith, Masterson, Hansen and Aardsma. Just one of those guys needs to not suck for a couple weeks in October and they're golden.
Trade Manny.

yes, more trades with texas, we have what you want, if all goes well we can get you and the yanks in a bidding war for one of our 4 major league ready catchers (more like 3 but teagarden just got called up but offensively he's not ready) and a reliever

I wouldn't mind everyday Eddie if he came dirt cheap. He has to be an upgrade over Lopez.

I'd also like to see what Ron Mayhay would cost from KC.

If in their grand scheme they want Matt Holiday in left next season instead of Manny (i would) then how do you facilitate that move for the stretch run this year. Another guy that i think could be had is shortstop Yuniesky Bettancourt, the question is what are you willing to give up for him.

^^Aren't we on shaky terms with the rockies? I remember a couple years back when theo backed out of a Larry Bigbie (actually, that might not be the player) deal. And the rockies gm or owner said he would never trade with theo and the sox. Then the whole helton thing never worked out. Plus sweeping them in the series. I just don't see a rockies/red sox deal coming easily.

No thanks. I don't think he's an upgrade over Lowrie.

I really think manny will be manny somewhere else come deadline time. Epstein is on the phones now, and then has to listen to manny say he would not deny a trade.

Sucks because when we win, I really like manny. Find him funny, great hitter. But when we lose, his quirky habits to get annoying.

Here is my trade ideas. Now they are a reach, and I am going to use the term minor leaguer, so bare with me.

Manny for Jimmy Rollins. We might have to add someone. Manny is happy, charlie Maunel is happy, J-rollins and the red sox are happy.

Minor Leaguers for Adam Dunn. Best power that is out there. Buster olney said the asking price was high though.

Manny can trade a boring deadline, very interesting. Wonder if we will see a game winning hit again, and him say the term, oh that is just manny being manny.

Manny for Matt Kemp or Andre Either is said to be in discussion by two different sources. NY post and SI.

Something needs to happen. I feel like this is 2006 all over again.

Return to Boston Red Sox
