Well, its pretty much the only topic of discussion in Boston sports right now, so it seems poll-worthy.
id also like to know what your long term ideas about the situation are.
I myself am torn, hes one of my all-time favorites, he epitomizes the type of player i like. a stoner who tries to not give a damn too much. but lately it seems hes stepped it up to lines in the mornin or something. hes lost it, i finally am ready to say goodbye.
and no, Matt friggin Holliday is not a suitable replacement, no matter how many times espn tries to tell you that.

Re: Manny in Boston
Why isn't Matt Holliday a suitable replacement?
Sure, no one will ever put up the same numbers manny put up while he was on his tears here. But Holliday is easily the best replacement that will be on the market in the winter. I can't think of anyone who is better...
Jermaine Dye, Adam Dunn, who?
The only problem with Holliday though, is it will take a lot to get him. Aren't the rockies asking for bucholz just for fuentez?
I like manny a lot. And I can deal with his got to take a piss, got to make a call antics. But this whole trade me, keep me, sign me, sell me to iraq ****, is very annoying. And then people chime in saying he is not replaceable. I understand that, but is he is not replaceable to the point where we will never win again if we let him go?? I don't think so. You don't need a manny and ortiz combo to win it every year.
I think Theo holds on to manny unless he gets wowed before the deadline.
Then, afterwards he might do what the yanks did with sheff. pick up the option then trade him.

Re: Manny in Boston
id rather see them roll with a Coco, Jacoby and JD outfield for a year then overpay ridiculously for Holliday.
sure, ya dont NEED a top 5 bat in the OF, but your the sox, your gonna spend the money on somebody. might as well make it worthwhile.
and i agree on the Sheff take, that seems like the most likely route left. I'd personally like to see them sit down Thursday with him at 5 and say "we're tearing up the options, go make your contract run." make him earn that $100mil

Re: Manny in Boston
Here in SoCal listening to the Angel broadcast their announcers were saying there's a Manny to Marlins deal. Anyone in BoSox land heard anything?
Every at-bat they were saying "this might be his final game" and "he may be in a Marlin jersey Friday" and "a storied career may be over in Boston" and such.
Wondering?

One report sais it is done. manny to marlins, prospects to pitt, bay to the sox.
Peter gammons disputes this though saying a deal is unlikely. But expects talks to go throughout the night.

Because Holliday can’t hit worth a damn outside of Coors.

Re: Manny in Boston
Finally. This team was going nowhere fast. Now, this may or may not turn this season around for the Sox, I for one, am glad that Manny is gone. His act had grown quite tiresome. We won 2 titles with him and for that I thank you. Now he is gone and I thank him for that as well.

Hope Bay can throw some innings out of the pen because this team is still going nowhere fast.
On the bright side, the team got a whole lot cheaper and, in return, got a left fielder with a girlier arm than a red light district tranny.
