Saltalamacchia wants to be a Red Sox.

Boston Globe - Rangers catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia has heard rumors of him being traded to the Red Sox, and he couldn't be happier.

Saltalamacchia doesn't have anything against Texas, but he grew up idolizing Jason Varitek.

"That would be a dream come true," said Saltalamacchia. "I'd love to go there and either work under Jason for a year or two or just go there and catch full-time.

"I love watching Jason. He's like an idol of mine. I watch him and I learn from him and I'd love to be able to spend time with him. I saw him this year and we talked for a while and I learned so much from him in the short time we had."

He has got the right idea. That is the perfect deal in my opinion. Get a young catcher, like him, or teagarden, or clement, and then sign varitek for a 2 year deal. Tek wouldn't swing for that though.

Nice to see Salty would like to be a Red Sox. Have to say he wouldn't be my first choice as a catcher from the Rangers.

This topic makes me nervous. We need a young stud catcher but I've heard a lot of negative stuff about him and his numbers aren't very good at all so far

On the other hand, it's a move you almost have to make with the lack of catching out there. If he could learn from Varitek for a couple years and back him up then that would be ideal.

Agreed...we don't have ANY catching depth right now..and looking in the farm system it doesn't look like there is any on the horizon. Too bad we traded Shoppach, he had a great year this season!
