Red Sox vs. Rockies- June 12,13,14

Post#1 » by BS007 » Tue Jun 12, 2007 12:57 am

THIS IS FOR TUESDAYS GAME

Sox open set against Rockies
Colorado (31-32) at Boston (40-22)
Tuesday, 7:05 p.m. ET
TV: NESN Radio: WRKO 680 AM
By Ian Browne / MLB.com

When the Red Sox open up a six-game homestand against the Rockies on Tuesday night at Fenway Park, they'll be playing the type of Interleague Play they enjoy.

Unlike in Arizona, the DH is in effect, which means manager Terry Francona can trot out his "A" team. There will be no need to sit someone from the trio of Mike Lowell, Kevin Youkilis and David Ortiz.

Ortiz, meanwhile, can toss aside his first baseman's mitt until June 18, when the Sox open a three-game set at Atlanta.

After a 3-4 road trip, the Red Sox will try to get back on a roll at Fenway, where they are 19-10 this season. Veteran knuckleballer Tim Wakefield takes the ball for the Sox. Aaron Cook counters for Colorado.

Todd Helton, who was rumored to be Boston-bound during the winter, will make his second career trip to Fenway.

Pitching matchup

BOS: RHP Tim Wakefield (5-7, 4.22 ERA)
Wakefield was able to corral his knuckleball enough to strike out a season-high eight hitters and walked just two against the Oakland A's on Wednesday night. The three runs he allowed was his fewest in a start since May 10. He still took the loss though.

COL: RHP Aaron Cook (4-2, 4.54 ERA)
Cook has typically pitched six innings, while giving up three or four runs, in the majority of his 13 starts this season. But he's been winning -- he's 4-1 in his past seven starts. He allowed five runs on seven hits in six innings against Houston in his last outing, but the Rockies came back to win. Three starts ago, Cook hurled a five-hit complete game in a win over the Giants.

Player to watch
J.D. Drew is 4-for-8 lifetime against Cook with a double, a triple, homer and five RBIs.
Drew is a .341 lifetime hitter against the Rockies with seven homers and 36 RBIs.

Dustin is moving to the leadoff spot tonight. Lugo down to 9th. Ouch, that hurts, and helps all at the same time.

And follow that up with a horrible loss. Tough to blame Schill too much, those weak grounders kept finding all the right gaps.

The Sox bats need to get going soon. Been about 2 weeks with little production minus 1 game in Arizona.

Exactly. This is why I wouldn't be surprised if we made some sort of move to shake things up. But whatever at this point, hopefully we give the Giants a better series.

It seems like Francona is trying just about anything. While I actually like Drew leading off, I don't like his first game as a leadoff hitter to be against a lefty.

Dustin Pedroia is considerably cooler.
