Not really. While it is nice to have an awesome minor league system, the MLB team is far more important.

The Red Sox will still have 2 supp. 1st rounders from Gonzalez and Foulke (LOL! Thanks Keith...) and have actually had more success drafting there or later than in the regular 1st round recently. They'll get some good to great prospects this draft and with no 1st rounder they can always use that 1st round money to pick a guy who falls due to signability issues (see: Lars Anderson '06) and give them the 1st round money they want.

The worst part is that Lugo sucks at baseball right now, is posting an OBP well below .300, is average to slightly above average (considering position) when he is playing like he usually does and he gets a 4 year, $36M deal out of it.
I take this back. The worst part is we gave up Porcello; had no idea he'd drop like he did.

Like he did with Edgar Renteria? ;)

SS has been a revolving door for the Sox for a few years now; and while I am not a fan of Lugo, I think it is just too early to judge him. If he still sucks at the end of the year, then look for alternatives, but at least give him a chance.

Although karma doesn't seem to be on his side, if you consider yesterday's error...

1st mistake - not resigning Cabrera (look at his year so far :banghead: )

2nd mistake - letting AGon walk - one of the best defensive shortstops I've ever seen.

I really don't think Rent was cut out for Boston. Never seemed happy. I think Lugo has the mentality for Boston, just not the game. His defense is iffy on a good day and he looks absolutely horrible at the plate.

Renteria could actually hit the ball (he hit .280 with us that one year) so he wasn't totaly useless. Lugo just sucks on all fronts, except basestealing.

Return to Boston Red Sox
