Why Isn't Sending Pena Down to Pawtucket even an option?

The guy hasn't played at all since Ellsbury was called up. You figured since Crisp was hurt, Pena would be playing Center. But his defense was too risky i guess. Pena can't be sitting on the bench much longer not playing. David Murphy or Eric Hinske are better suited being 4th OF's. Pena needs to play everyday to show his worth, and he would get that oppurntunity in Triple A. He could work on so many things down threre, like plate disipline and how to hit a offspeed pitches and curveballs. He would get his AB's down there and would improve. Or at least improve his trade value. Anythings better than him just sitting on the bench up here.

There is a reason that WMP has been in the majors for several years as a part time player rather than a full time minor leaguer. When the Yankees signed him out of the DR, they gave him a major league deal, which means he was added to the 40 man roster when he signed. He was out of options at 20 and had to stick in the majors. That's why. mahalo

Ok, thanks for clarifying, so pretty much this is a crappy situation that he and the Sox are in.
