Its going to be pretty weird to see him benched before the 1st year of his deal is done but thats what should happen.

I never understood you guys going after him in the 1st place.

Same goes for most Red Sox fans. Well actually I do understand why the Red Sox really liked him, but not for that amount of money. While I didn't want Drew in Boston I do have to say I thought he would be a lot better than he is showing this season.

For whatever it is worth, Drew has an 817 OPS (.283/.380/.437) in his last 329 plate appearances. If he can regain his powerstroke next year he, Ortiz and Pedroia should be the three best players on the team.

I would not, under any reasonable terms, trade him.

The Sox wouldn't get anything for him or would have to pay for most his contract. Drew will be on the team next year.

I just don't get why they didn't give WMP a shot in RF this year. He's younger, costs way less, and has the potential to be better than Drew was IMO. In about 180 less ABs he's got more HR and only 16 less RBIs.

Well the Sox just don't look at HR and RBI. It's getting on base and hitting doubles. Drew used to do that stuff very well, this year he's struggled. Not to mention Drew is 10x the OF Pena could even dream of being.

I do agree with you once money becomes involved. I would have went with a platoon of Pena and Nixon or another lefty bat.

I was high on Pena when we got him and I still like the guy. I think he will end up having a 40 homerun season, problem is he should be doing it as a DH.

It would have looked pretty bad if the red sox had a guy making 14 million a year coming off the bench. Mike Lowell has saved Drews ass this season too. If he hadn't stepped up and knocked in all of these runs that Drew didn't the red sox probably would be struggling in the wild card race right now and everytime Drew struck out with runners in scoring position the fans would have probaly rioted rather then the quiet boo's he is hearing now.

Pena's defense in RF would have been comedy gold.

Besides, this quote I read somewhere (SOSH?) sums it up pretty nicely (paraphrased):
"I am pretty sure WMP could defeat a bear. Unless the bear knew how to throw a curveball."
