Lancaster

I was looking at some of our mil'ers in Lancaster especially pitchers. It seems that everyone of them (except Bowden) has been struggling. I know its early in the season, but any thoughts on this? Is that stadium/league a hitter or pitcher friendly league?

It's the most ridiculous hitting environment in all of professional baseball. By far. This includes every stadium in the minors and every stadium in the majors. It's like going to Coors in the mid 90s and then having a 20 MPH wind blowing straight out to CF.

So crazy. The Red Sox have to endure this until 2008 and then they're getting the **** out of there.

I would just completely ignore any and all stats that are logged in that stadium. The only thing I would look at is if a hitter is struggling there. If you don't put up a .300 average here you basically suck. I think the team as a whole last year (then a Diamondbacks team) hit something like .320 in that stadium. I'll look it up later, but it's something nuts like that.

Here we go. In 2006:

Code: Select all

         BA    OBP    SLG
Home   .335   .395   .562
Road   .272   .342   .403

That's (Please Use More Appropriate Word).

The fact that Michael Bowden has a 2.33 ERA while playing in Lancaster is really amazing. He's making a Buchholz-like leap right now. It's only 27 innings, but it's really exciting to see a quality prospect put up a 2.33 ERA in a park where the norm is like 14 runs a game.

Actually, let me break it down. Here are the total runs scored in home games and away games for Lancaster this year:

Home: 15.23 runs/game
Away: 11.28 runs/game

It's early, but it's like they're playing two different games.

I like to beat dead horses, so here is some more nice proof that it's a ridiculous stadium.

That's a 957 team OPS at home and a 745 OPS on the road. They're Willie Mays at home and BJ Surhoff on the road. Also, look at the huge disparity in strikeouts. It's obvious this park alters the way pitchers pitch.

Lancaster lost 30-0 today. In Lancaster.

And no, they didn't play football.

Quick aside, but Matt Antonelli is tearing it up right now:
