Is Mike Lowell gone after this year???

Post#1 » by GregB » Fri May 11, 2007 5:05 am

He will be 34 years old next year. Do we keep him past this year or let him go ala Mark Loretta??? But unlike Loretta we dont have a guy like Pedoria waiting in the wings. So if we move him we will have to replace him from outside the org. Who would you replace him with?

You could move Youks to third and go after a 1B. They're much easier to find than 3B are.

I have a feeling Lowell is going to be comparatively cheap to sign, so I wouldn't exclude him coming back for 1-2 more years.

I think he's probably gone but it depends on how the FA or trade market shakes out. Edwin Encarnacion is in the Cincy doghouse so a decent trade could net us a good young third baseman and we have plenty in our farm system to make it happen. But it just depends on how things shake out. It could happen that he stays or he very easily could move on. mahalo

Depending on what the Sox do this offseason Lowell will be back or not... The Todd Helton talks are coming up again, so if we get Helton, Youk goes to third and Lowell is gone. I wouldn't mind having lowell back for another year or two. He is a very professional guy and a great clubhouse figure.

I'd much rather have Lowell than Helton.
"The guy is an idiot," Pedroia said regarding Cabrera. "I dropped my bat. It kind of freaked me out. I was upset they took him out of the game. He is good to hit. He's 9-15. The guy [stinks]."

Helton hits for a higher average, he has like a career .300+ average, Lowell has a career average of only about .275

It would not shock me if Lowell is back for next season. He's a nice player to have. However if they can get their hands on a real good first baseman, then they have to move Youk to third.
