The Trading Deadline
With the trading deadline coming up do you see the Sox being any kind of player in the market? Our offense is chugging along outside of Lugo and Coco, and I don

Now I know this Idea is probably going to be trashed, but I thought I would throw it out there. How about Griffey? AT THE RIGHT PRICE, of course. I would like to see them grab griffey, if he is cheap. Or at least run up the price for another team, maybe the yankees.
Other then that, I dont think this team needs much. I dont think they need to get into the zambrano race or anything big, like andruw jones. Just keep it simple theo.

This are some ideas i found:
Trade #1: Cubs trade Carlos Zambrano and Jacque Jones for Jon Lester, Clay Buchholz and Wily Mo Pena. Yes, the Sox are trading two promising, young arms in Lester and Buchholz. But, they haven't proved anything in the big leagues. Zambrano is a stud, period. Add him to Schilling, Josh Beckett, Daisuke Matsuzaka and Tim Wakefield, and you have an unbelievable rotation. Outside of finances, Jones for Pena is a wash, but Chicago is looking to unload him and this could make the offer more appealing. This probably means the end of Julian Tavarez in a Sox uniform, which should receive a standing ovation. This also keeps the Yankees or Mets from getting Zambrano. Realistic: Pena will be traded to San Diego for relieve Scott Linebrink. Not as sexy, but could be huge. And, then to replace Pena, the Sox will get Jones for Clay Buchholz or Craig Hansen.
Trade #2: Rangers trade Mark Teixeira and Eric Gagne for Mike Lowell, Abe Alvarez and Manny Delcarmen. Again, mortgaging the future with Alvarez and Delcarmen, but the Rangers absolutely need pitching and are looking to rebuild their staff. And to make room for Teixeira at first base, the Sox will need to move Kevin Youkilis to third base and that leaves Lowell as the odd man out. Gagne has obviously been injury proned, but he would be a great set-up guy for Jonathan Papelbon. Imagine Mike Timlin in the seventh, Hideki Okajima and Gagne in the eighth and Papelbon in the ninth. Realistic: Teixeira will get traded next season, as that is his contract year. Gagne may be available, but I doubt Epstein is willing to give up young arms for him.
Trade #3: Cardinals trade Jim Edmonds and Anthony Reyes for Coco Crisp, Kason Gabbard, Craig Hansen and a first-round draft pick. Edmonds is nearing the end of his career, but he can still play great defense and has some pop left in his bat. I think all Sox fans would admit that Crisp has been bit of a disappointment, but he still has market value. St. Louis will need to look at rebuilding and a speedy centerfielder that is built more for the National League (bunting, sacrificing, stealing bases) could be appealing. Reyes helps replace the loss of Lester/Buchholz in terms of future power arms. Also, the Sox may not have to give up Gabbard and Hansen. Realistic: Actually, this one could happen.

My thoughts:
No! Lester and Bucholz are future studs. Zambrano is getting lit up this year, in the NL, and Jones is the defintion of mediocre. No way on this trade.
Hmm. This one is interesting. If the Sox lock up Texiera long term then i say do it. I'll miss Lowell, but you gotta figure his production will slow down. Alavarez and MDC are no big loss, and Gagne appears to be back, pitching well this year as Texas's closer.
Edmonds is as old as hell, but with Ellsbury getting ready to take over, i can live with him in center for a year or 2. Reyes would infact replace the two, but i think Bucholtz will be the best out of the trio of Lester, Reyes, and himself. Crisp leaving is fine, Gabbard will have a mediocre career, and Hansen is expendable. I'd do this.

How about putting Papelbon in the rotation and making Gagne the closer?
Just throwing it out there.

Where did you find those BS007 because with this gem,
this guy's credibility goes out the window because he clearly is talking out of his ass.
First one is horrible for several reason, most notably that both Lester and Buchholz are going to provide you with legit major league pitching at a fraction of the cost AND Zambrano is a FA in three months. That is one of the worst trade proposals I have ever seen.
Second one is an absolute raping of the Rangers, no way they give up Tex for that little.
The third is an absolute raping of the Cards. Yeah, Edmonds is old and I could deal with him in CF as a placeholder for Ellsbury but there is no way that the Cards give up Reyes for a bag of beans. Yeah, he's walking too many guys in the big leagues but he's another legit pitching prospect and we are getting him for squat. mahalo

No, we're not a well oiled machine. This offense is sputtering along at best. You have a few players playing out of their minds and the rest are pure crap. The win total has really glossed over the leadoff spot which has been a major issue all year.
My dream move for the offseason would be to bring in Ichiro. A few reasons for this (none have to do with Dice):
1. Probably the best leadoff man in the majors - our biggest hole.
2. He has stated his desire to play for a winning team and has told Seattle he will be gone unless they start to win. Granted they are off to a better start then expected, but his name could surface if they begin to drop off.
3. Seattle wants something for him. They know the kind of options he'll face if he hits the market.
4. Fine, I'll throw in the attraction of playing with Dice and Okajima, though I think its a pretty minor point for Ichiro.
What the bidding war will be like for him I'm unsure of since its only for 1/2 a year unless a team can reach terms for an extension. I would be willing to part with pretty much anyone other than Lester and Buchholz. Throw in Hansen, Crisp, Bowden, and someone else (maybe Gabbard has some interest). If Ellsbury was the dealbreaker I would think long and hard about it. Obviously not a holy crap type deal, but there are extenuating circumstances that I mentioned (expiring contract). I'll really have to see what the bidding war on him turns out to be if he hits the market.
PS. There is no way we should part with Buchholz for pretty much any reason over the next year. This kid looks like he's going to be scary.

Too be honest, the Red Sox bullpen is the ebst I've seen since I started following the team. I think they have enough guys on the team (and down in AAA) to keep this lead in the division. If we falter, it's the players fault not Theo's lack of making a move. Trading away the future would be the wrong thing to do in this situation, especially going after National League right-handed arms.
