Is Mo Pena available?

Post#1 » by edney2polynice_ » Fri Jul 6, 2007 3:55 pm

Does anyone think that the Red Sox's & Giants' could be good trade partners?

We are in desperate need of young talent, and although WMP is very raw offensively & defensively, he has shown that he has potential.

Players we could move for WMP & a b-level prospect(s): Ray Durham (good power for a 2B), Omar Vizquel (speed & GG defense), Randy Winn (good defense, decent speed, and a consitent hitter), Dave Roberts (speed).

I'm sure they are willing to move Pena. I would love to have Dave Roberts back in Boston. But I'm not sure how willing he be to be a glorfied pinch runner again. The Sox could use a legit setup guy too.

The only guy in our pen that I can see getting moved would be Steve Kline, who is really no more than a "lefty specialist" no where near a "legit" setup man.

Due to past trades, I doubt Sabean trades our young RP that are doing well (Messanger, Hennessey, Sanchez), and have shown a lot of promise.

And Although I'd love to get rid of Roberts, I doubt the Red Sox's trade for him and his 3-year contract (roughly 6-7 mill? a year) to be a glorified pitch runner.

Yeah I don't know what I was thinking, for some reason I thought Roberts only had 1 year on his contract.

I also don't think Kline is the guy for the Sox. We already got two lefties in our pen, really no reason for a third.

None of those players make any sense for the Red Sox. Durham would be a pinch-hitter, Vizquel a backup, Roberts wouldn't even be on the team, Winn the same.

Wily Mo Pena isn't going to be traded for a major league player unless it's part of a package deal where they significantly upgrade a position like 3B. And the Giants don't have a 3B who would be even league average next year if Mike Lowell leaves.

There isn't a need for a reliever, either. Unless we're talking about a legitimate set-up guy.

The Giants make very little sense unless they want to trade someone like Sanchez.

I would like someone with a bit more big games under his belt than Delcarmen come playoff time. I'd like to see Pena sent in a package for Otsuka or Gagne, not Steve Kline.

I sure hope he is better than Roberts. But at this point at least base stealing wise it could be close.
