Yuck.

Why not Gabbard or whatever? Lester isn't especially good.

Gabbard pitched yesterday, so he obviously can't go tomorrow. Lester is replacing Tavarez in the rotation, not Gabbard.

I agree though, his Triple-A #'s suggest he is barely ready for Triple-A and they are bringing him up to face one of the elite offensive teams in the MLB? Not a fan of this move, regardless of how awful Tavarez has been lately. Still, it'll be fun to see Lester back in the majors and I don't think he is weak enough mentally (like Hansen appears to be) where he will be "done" if he gets hit by Cleveland.

Yeah yeah yeah. Brain fart.

Pauley and Hansack seem like safer bets right now. Pauley would be nice against Cleveland. He throws strikes and he gets groundballs.

I'm excited to watch him pitch, but not exactly optimistic about him going more than 3-4 innings and coming out with an ERA under 6.

Lester's future is bright as a top of the rotation guy. Prior to these 5 starts, what did Gabbard's future amount to in the mind's of Red Sox Nation? A career number 4 guy? I want to see Gabbard pitch more before I'm sold on him being better than Jon Lester. Gabbard will be servicable in the AL with roughly a 4 career ERA

I'm hoping Lester's poor performance was the result of disappointment at still being in the minors.

I really don't understand this move. So you call up Lester to make one start? Then he will be replaced by Schilling. Why not just give Tavarez one more start and then replace him with Schill?

I heard on the radio today that Cleveland has struggled versus lefties so that might be part of the move.

On no planet does Lester have to top of the rotation potential. He is a wonderful pitcher with good stuff but has yet to show he has anything other than average command. He and Gabbard are exact opposite. Gabbard's stuff is considerably weaker but he knows what to do with it and it gets him success. He really has Jamie Moyer "lefty with underwhelming stuff who becomes a sucess" potential. If Lester vastly improves his control, he would be a nominal #1 starter on a team like Tampa but I can't see him being a #3-4 on the Red Sox (although that is mostly because he is behind such great pitchers).

That being said, I am happy as **** to see him make it back. Hopefully he will get a game back at Fenway before heading back down. mahalo

Did somebody say David Pauley?

Reminder, kiddoes: for only $1, you can become a member of the David Pauley Fan Club. Admission into the club gets you an autographed 8x11 of David, two tickets to see him pitch, a cool thermos with a picture of David in action on it, and his Bowman rookie card!

I like Lester and all, but he won't be any more than a #3 guy in his career.

Close, hater. 6 IP with a 3 ERA, not the other way around.

Jon Lester > Mike Timlin > Bleeding Green.

Whether he is good or not is irrelevant. He showed a lot today by not being overwhelmed and against an excellent hitting team. He's still only 23 years old and can do a lot to improve his control

It is nice to see Lester have success in his first game back.
