Jon Lester is either great or legendary at getting out of jams. I haven't decided which, yet.

I'm actually surprised he is getting hit the way he is tonight, though. He is sitting 91-93 with the 4 seamer and has hit 94 a few times, he also has a solid curve going. To me, his stuff looks quite a bit better than against Cleveland and Tampa, when he gave up far fewer hits.

Oops. My bad, I jinxed him. Jon Lester and the Red Sox offense both suck hardcore ass.

Timlin hasn't pitched in a long time because of a sore shoulder, struggles in his 1st inning of relief yet Francona brings him back out for a 2nd inning in a 1 run game? Fo' real?

Also, we suck at Safeco.

Dice-K :droop:

He's got ace written all over him. Gets out of jams all the time -- that's a huge part of a pitchers game

Dice-K was just overpowering tonight. Definitely the best fastball he has had with the Red Sox. Gameday and the M's feed had him hit 97 a few times and throwing 92-95 consistently. NESN is usually a little slow compared to most guns and they had him sitting 91-94 most of the time with several 95's and Remy said he hit 97 a few times as well, using the parks radar gun.

On another note: Gagne needs to stop blowing this.

Dear Eric Gagne,

Thank you for listening to me.

Seriously... I was just thinking "Oh man I love Gagne..." then he started to choke. Thank God he pulled out of that one. If we lose again at Safeco I'm going to cry. Especially since my best friend is an M's fan. :banghead:

Beckett goes for win No. 14
Boston (67-43) at Seattle (60-48)
By Chris Hester / Special to MLB.com

Josh Beckett takes to the hill in the rubber game of the Red Sox's three-game series against the Mariners at Safeco Field looking to join C.C. Sabathia as the American League's only 14-game winners.
Beckett has taken the loss in three of his last four starts despite pitching well. The right-hander has posted a 3.30 ERA, allowing 11 earned runs on 24 hits while walking six and striking out 31 batters in 30 innings of work over the stretch. The problem for Beckett has been run support -- the Red Sox have scored only four runs in the three losses.

Daisuke Matsuzaka earned his 13th victory of the year Saturday night in the Red Sox's 4-3 victory over the Mariners, snapping the Sox's nine-game Safeco Field losing streak.

Pitching matchup

BOS: RHP Josh Beckett (13-5, 3.41 ERA)
Beckett took the loss in his last outing allowing five runs on nine hits in eight innings of work in the Red Sox's 5-3 loss to the Orioles at Fenway Park on July 31.

SEA: RHP Miguel Batista (11-7, 4.23 ERA)
Batista has not started against the Red Sox since Aug. 24, 2004, when he took a loss after allowing five runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings. His last appearance against Boston was on Sept. 29, 2005, when he allowed one run in one-third of an inning while with the Blue Jays.

Players to watch
Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz have both had success in their careers against Batista. Ramirez is hitting .400 (8-for-20) with a home run and four RBIs against the Seattle right-hander. Ortiz has posted a .375 (6-for-16) average with two home runs and seven RBIs against Batista
