Thinking of some players on the team on the roster now that are debateable or have no shot at all of making the roster, he'll i'll just focus on the debatle guys: Lester, Buccholz, the entire Sox bullpen except for Paplebon, Cash/Mirabelli, Hinske, Moss.. I really tink Cash sould go over Mirabelli, and out of the pen i would take Tavarez, Timlin, Delcarmen, Lopez, Gagne, and maybe Snyder...

My 25 would be.

Schilling
Beckett
Dice-K
Wakefield
Papelbon
Timlin
Okajima
Gagne
Tavarez
Delcarmen
Snyder
Buchholz

Tek
Belli
Youkilis
Pedroia
Lugo
Cora
Lowell
Ramirez
Crisp
Drew
Ortiz
Ellsbury
Kielty

I left off Lopez, because I don't trust the guy. Lester, I don't think now is the time to let him become a reliever and Buchholz is a better pitcher at this point. While I would like Hinske on the team, Kielty takes his spot. His ability to hit left handed pitchers puts him on the team over Hinske.

Pitchers:

Beckett, Schilling, and Dice-K will be the three pitchers we use in the ALDS, they would get 2 starts in a 7 game series, leaving one starting spot open. I've realized thats its gonna be Wakefield. Lester doesn't make the playoff roster. So you have 4 starters, I think Buccholz should be on there as well to pitch long relief. So thats 5 guys. Papelbon, Gagne, Delcarmen, Timlin, Okajima, Lopez, and Tavarez make 12. Thats my list

I can't take the guy either. But if we go against Cleveland he might be needed. Sizemore and Hafner will be a tough matchup.

They don't need him. 11 pitchers and 14 position players should do it.

Beckett
Daisuke
Schilling
Wakefield
Tavarez
Papelbon
Gagne
Okajima
Buchholz
Delcarmen
Timlin

Varitek
Mirabelli
Youkilis
Pedroia
Lugo
Lowell
Ramirez
Crisp
Drew
Ellsbury
Hinske
Kielty
Ortiz
Cora

OK, you want to leave Wakefield off. Who do you want to put on in place of him? There isn't anyone beyond Lester or Lopez or Snyder. You want mop-up pitchers in his place? Sweet.

I don't think they'll need more than 9 or 10 pitchers in a 5 game series. Hell, they might just use 7 or 8. If you need Kyle Snyder you aren't going to be winning any games. You may as well just put Cora out there.

I thought Snyder has done pretty good this season. Or maybe it's I just don't expect much of anything from the guy. Plus I suppose we have two guys that can eat innings in Tavarez and Buchholz.

He hasn't pitched an important inning all season. He just comes in when the game is out of hand either side. He doesn't have command of any pitch and he can't strike guys out. He has a 40/31 K/BB ratio in 53.1 IP. Not good. Don't be fooled by the reasonable ERA.

I forgot to add Okajima. I would choose him over Lopez and Synder.

Yeah I agree it's either Doug or Cash.

I do believe the Sox should carry a guy that is good against lefties. Problem is Lopez doesn't lefties out this year. Lester has been better, but Garrett Anderson has had some serious success against Lester. So I think the guy who should be the lefty guy...is well Bryan Corey. Yeah I know he's not a lefty. But against lefties this year he's held them to a .225 BAA. And I know just 4 innings of data this year against lefties. While his career has been short he's held lefties to a .228 average for it.

Now I just don't trust Lopez or Lester...they walk too many guys. And obviously Buchholz is not an option for this postseason. So the 11th man is between Snyder or Bryan Corey. Snyder has good numbers against lefties this year as well, but he's also been terrible throughout the rest of his career against them.

Any chance Corey makes this squad? I doubt it, but hey I figured I should share my thoughts.

Red Sox leave Wakefield off roster against Angels

By JAY LINDSAY, Associated Press Writer
October 2, 2007

BOSTON (AP) -- Knuckleballer Tim Wakefield has been left off Boston's playoff roster for its first-round series against the Los Angeles Angels because of his ailing back.

Manager Terry Francona said Tuesday that the goal was to get Wakefield healthy enough for later in the playoffs, should the Red Sox advance.

Wakefield (17-12) threw Tuesday, but did not feel good.

The Red Sox instead will carry a third catcher, Kevin Cash, who played 12 games this season after being called up in mid-August. Francona said the move would give the Red Sox more flexibility to make substitutions

Jeez I'm fine with Wakefield being off the roster, but there is no reason to have Cash on the roster. The Sox don't take Tek out of the game for anything, so there is no reason to think that Mirabelli would be in to have to be pinch hit for.

Really should have just had an extra pitcher.

Tavarez and Snyder were also left off the Boston roster. I don't understand why you would want Cash over the 11th pitcher. I'd really like to see one more guy who could eat innings out of the pen besides Jon Lester.

Here is the roster.

Regulars:

Jason Varitek
Kevin Youkilis
Dustin Pedroia
Julio Lugo
Mike Lowell
J.D. Drew
Coco Crisp
Manny Ramirez
David Ortiz

Bench:

Eric Hinske
Alex Cora
Jacoby Ellsbury
Bobby Kielty
Doug Mirabelli
Kevin Cash

Pitchers:

Josh Beckett
Daisuke Matsuzaka
Curt Schilling
Jon Lester
Jonathan Papelbon
Eric Gagne
Hideki Okajima
Mike Timlin
Manny Delcarmen
Javier Lopez

Makes no sense, no need to have belly on there if wakefield is not on
