10 days has turned into a month, and Manny is clearly isn't hurt, with his trips down to Florida and all. Francona and CO should fine his ass 10 grand a day that he misses from here on out. The guy doesn't care about this team. JD Drew has had is struggles, but a least he is out there for this team earning his money, in crappy fashion, but at least he is trying

Manny could probably play if the games meant anything. As they don't mean jack, he's not playing. Or maybe he's legitimately hurt and nothing would bring him back.

If you're going to used this logic, what about Youkilis. He's been out after getting hit with a little baseball.

Youk has gotten hit many times this year and is banged up, the dude took a 90 mph pitch off the the bone in his wrist. Manny did what, get out of bed too quick and hurt his oblique.? Ok, I know he did it "running" out of the batters box but c'mon, these games mean alot, we need to win the divison.

Players miss months due to them. Everyone's hero, Trot Nixon pulled his and missed like half a season.

The fact is that Manny is fine, and is once again not playing because he doesn't care. Ditching the team for Florida and running around down there should be proof enough? And do you really want to blow a 14.5 game lead and go backwards into the playoffs on the worst bad streak of the season? Plus if we win the divison we get to choose the format of the ALDS...

As BG pointed out an oblique can take a long time to heal. The most important thing for the Sox is to make sure Manny and Youk are healthy for the playoffs. If that means Ellsbury and Hinske have to play everyday from here on out then so be it.

It's obvious that the Sox would like to win the division. But if you end up without Manny and/or Youk for the playoffs it's really not worth it.

The Red Sox need to get ready for the playoffs. If they win the division during that process then good for them.

The Red Sox are the only team in baseball who doesn't try to win. When they lose, it's because they are resting their own players. It's not because they get beat: it's because they didn't try to win.

Spare me the freaking excuses. You guys have blown a 13 game lead. Something tells me your team was trying to win when they brought in Papelbon for the 8th at Fenway versus us. How come Ortiz has not getting more than a day off since September, given his knees?

Just spin by a fanbase that is trying to rationalize a potential chokejob.

Ortiz's knees are not going to get better with time off. Last I heard he needs surgery at the end of the season to fix his knees.

It would be a smart idea for the Yankees to rest Jeter to some if it will help him come playoff time.

Sorry I didn't know BG was the official spokesperson for red sox nation. That's just one person's opinion, so get out of here if you're going to knock on "red sox nation" over it.
I would care if the red sox don't win the division and every single player they interviewed said that the season's not over after clinching a playoff spot, because they are all focusing on winning the division. So there will be no excuses if we don't win it.

I agree they should of won the division and it sure would be nice to win it. But the main thing is to get guys healthy. There is no reason to play Youk or Manny if they are not 100%. It makes no sense to throw Okajima out there until his arm is better.

And if you can give Schilling or Dice-K some time to regroup it might be best for the team.

Absolutley.. those players should continue to get time off.. but i do still want to win with the players we got.

Of course every time you play a game you play to win. And hopefully the players that are playing can hold off the Yankees.

The Red Sox have played near .600 baseball this year and will likely win 95 games or more. That's hardly a "choke". The Yankees have just played unreal baseball for a few months to make it a race again.

Typical Yankee fan; so obsessed with the Red Sox that he doesn't even give credit to his own team for an unreal turnaround and instead labels it a choke by the Red Sox.

As for my thoughts on what the division means; well...obviously I'd like to win it. Just not at the expense of breaking Clay's innings limit (or in the Yankees case--breaking off the rules they had for Joba like they've done the past couple series) or trying to rush Manny or Youkilis back from injury. I don't really want them giving half the team off days (like they did against Edwin Jackson) until it is clinched, though.

What a great day, Magic Number is 3. If we go .600 for the remainder of the season we get the division. Considering we wont face Harden or Santana, its an achievable goal!!!!
