Tim Wakefield should not make the playoff roster
Wakefield has entered one of his bad streaks, and from past history, I've learned that Wakefield's bad streaks are longer than his good streaks. At this rate, Wake wouldn't be pitching good again until the middle of October. Schilling, Beckett, and Daisuke is all you need for starters in the 5 game ALDS series. For a 7 game series, throwing Wakefield out there is as much a liability as having Buchholz start. And you can't have Wakefield pitch out of the pen because everytime he comes in, Tek has to go out, and some offensivley catcher named Cash or Mirabelli has to come in catch him. Its just not worth it.

He'll be the fourth starter should it come to that, though hopefully they won't need a fourth starter in the playoffs. Regardless he'll be on the roster as a reliever at worst.
Can you please start quantifying your remarks. Wake's bad streaks are longer than his good streaks? Do you even begin to believe this to be true?
Varitek can catch Wakefield. Stop with this madness.

Wakefield doesn't deserve it, its hard to comeback when your down in a 5 or 6 run whole and its only the third inning. Thats demoralizing for a team His era will be over 5.00 by the end of the year. Buccholz should be this teams 4th starter. Then again, Wakefield would be suited for not pitching on a mad amount of rest, but still, you can't just give the other team one game in the ALCS or WS, if we even make it that far

The Sox don't want Buchholz over his innings limit, so I don't even think he's an option to start at this point. Wakefield has done enough this season to get the Game 4 start. I'd rather give a start to a guy that has done it before than a guy like Lester. I don't even think Lester makes the postseason roster, so him getting a start over Wakefield I don't think happens.

^^^Yeah that worked out great, he did go a solid 3.2 innings giving up 5 runs.
As for Wakefield I know he's been bad in the playoffs recently. But I also know he's the 4th starter and can be almost unhittable if he can get going. While I like Buchholz now is not the time to be putting a rookie out there to win a playoff game.

You plan on pitching your starters nine innings every game? On three days' rest?

The Sox can choose the format they want, I imagine they would want the series to take 8 days as opposed to sevin. Beckett goes in game 1 and game 4. Thats 3 days of rest, Schil in game two and game 5, 4 days of rest. Dice-K goes game three because he doesn't pitch as well on four days rest. Only Beckett goes on 3 days rest, the guy wants to pitch and is a gamer, he can handle it.

When Wakefield came in for relief he did. Wakefield was a relief pitcher for the first two rounds. Bronson Arroyo started game 3 against the Angels. Arroyo started game 3 and Lowe started 4 and 7 against New York.
Wakefield only had 1 start and that was Game 1 of the World Series. And Mirabelli was the catcher.
