Jason Bay, Matt Holliday, possibly Adam Dunn depending on if Cincy thinks they are in it. There are several trade options but if Ortiz is out long term, I go with Bonds because you can sign him for cheap and he put up a .480 OBP last season. mahalo

Yeah Bonds would be an interesting option. I wouldn't want to overpay for any of those 3. Even though I really like Bay.

No to Bonds. Really, really BIG NO to Bonds. That would be a PR nightmare for a guy who's on the decline and who, because of all the roids will decline even worse than normal. There's a reason he hasn't found a team to pay him yet.

I say give the kids a chance for now. Try to showcase some of the parts that are blocked in AAA and if it becomes clear that Papi is not coming back then look to use those parts to make a trade. We've got Moss, Bailey and Carter just rotting in AAA might as well give them some run now.

I'd throw Brian Giles in the mix. He's a FA (or, he has an option year, but it's a team option I think) and his road splits over the last few years are nice (.885 OPS over the last three .951 this season). He could play LF and move Manny to DH. Don't have to make a commitment outside of this season and he can probably be had (given his age and the trade kicker) at a fairly reasonable price.

Worth a call.

I think a mix of Chris Carter and Sean Casey will do just fine for a month.

As for Bonds, talent wise it makes a whole lot of sense. PR wise I think it would be horrible move for the team. No thanks to Barry.

I think they should get Bonds until Ortiz gets back and then cut ties with him very fast.

Totally missed Giles and that is a very good point. I am a big Giles fan so I would love that deal and we have been frequent trading partners with San Diego during Theo's reign so it sounds like a perfect set-up with Sandy Eggo getting ready for full blown rebuilding mode. mahalo
