Manny to the Dodgers

Post#1 » by Dirty Water » Thu Jul 31, 2008 9:14 pm

We all knew he was gone... I'm just surprised they traded him, didn't think they'd get the value.
Ok so in the aftermath... can we still win this thing with Jason Bay?

No real loss... but who's replacing Hansen in the bullpen?

Crazy how this came to, I was about to shut off the tv, when nesn reported that tito left the ballpark. Then the deal came up.

Do the red sox plan on having a press conference, or will they do it tomorrow before the game?

I'm going to miss him. He was a headache at times but he was mainly a lovavble clown that could just hit the crap out of the ball.

This was a dumb, unnecessary trade. Manny was awesome. He gave the guy a high five!

This is a good trade. Manny wasn't coming back next year, he was going to cause problems in the clubhouse. Hitting: Bay < Manny. But, Fielding: Bay >> Manny. Baserunning: Bay >> Manny. Chemistry: Bay >>>> Manny.

Hansen is failed prospect and Moss is the fifth outfielder (who can't play center). This is not a bad trade.

I like this trade too... :)

Bay's already decent offensive numbers should increase by playing half his games in Fenway.... and batting ahead of Big Poppy should allow him to see more fastballs....JMO

We also get an upgrade defensively in the outfield....

I like Manny... he is a good guy....but things were just not going well.... a shakeup was needed IMO....We were not going to resign him... that was evident....so it goes?

Guess we will have to see how this all shakes out?

It was obvious Manny had to go. He was holding the team hostage with his continuous antics. He had really gone too far pushing down the equipment manager, fighting with Youk, the constant words he had about the org. Don't absolve Boras in all of this as well. He doesn't get paid until Manny gets a new contract. So, if the Sox had picked up the 2 options, Boras gets nothing. Now, after the season, he can get Manny a 4 year deal and get his own in doing so. I think Bay is going to surprise many here who obviously don't know the damage Manny was doing. I think we can live without his mediocre production this year.

Sure.....why not?

My guess is that this shakeup was needed.... Manny wasn't what you would call a team leader....

All Jason Bay has to do is produce.... I'm sure he already has been accepted by most of the Red Sox faithfull who know about the trade...

The fans who idolized Manny will come around as soon as Bay gets a few game winning hits or saves a game or two with his defensive abilities...There will be a difference... thats for sure.....

I just hope everything works out well....

Hope Manny is a success in LA too!... he's a good guy who realized it was time to move on....I'm glad we got a decent player in return for him...JMO

More like Manny likes money. This could have also been reported in the paper. But my coworker played baseball with Manny Delcarmen in HS and is one of his good friends. Delcarmen is pretty good friends with Manny Ramirez. Apparently, He wanted the Sox to exercise his two option years and also give him a 2yr 30 million dollar extension. The red Sox didn't want to do that. Manny decided to tank so they would trade him.

It kind of sucks we had to give up Moss. But, I realize he is unnecessary with the acquisition of Bay. Drew and Bay most likely have the Corner spots locked up for the next few years. We need to use the savings of Manny to get a bat at SS in the offseason.

Hopefully we can still get some bullpen help for the playoff push. Whether it be from a trade or AAA.

Not sure if you quite understand but Lugo is our shortstop for the next two years unless we can find someone to trade him to (good luck)

No you have it wrong...as a Yankee fan, I popped the cork on the Champaign when I heard the news. Manny was the main cog of your most recent success. He instilled fear on opposing pitchers. He was a pain in our arses. Jason Bay? Meh....not sweating him.

Manny Hitting + Fear Factor to Other Pitchers >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Jason Bay

Which at the end of the day, outweighs all of his negatives

Sorry to see Manny go, but it was behginning to sound unavoidable this time around. He's not perfect, but I hate to look at articles from the Globe/Herald and reading the 50+ comments underneath them bashing Manny like none other. People get on Schilling because of his passionate ego, but thats exactly what has always allowed him to do what he does on the mound. People hate Manny's aloofness, but thats exactly what has allowed him to focus so damn well at the plate. Temper issues this season weren't good, but I won't judge too harshly because I am sure he was emotionally charged, and for such a laid back guy I'm sure he may have had some repressed emotions. When push comes to shove he was there when we needed him throughout, and he generally did what he was paid to do.

I'll reserve judgement on the trade. I don't know exactly what the locker-room undercurrents were like. Our OF wasn't horrible without Manny pre-trade, so I don't know how much of an impact Jason Bay makes. Given that we also gave up prospects to get Bay, and that Manny IMO would have been a professional and showed up when we needed him if we didn't trade him, I'm inclined to dislike the trade. But, if Manny wanted to be traded maybe we owed it to him, he wasn't necessarily going to be back next season anyway, the clubhouse environment probably is improved, and the front office knows more than I do and when push comes to shove I trust Theo & Co.

Yankee fans are funny, that don't seem to realize that there was a very good chance Manny wasn't goingto play the last two months anyway, bu by trading him they got Jason Bay. Yankee fans seem to think Manny 2008 is equal to Manny 2003, but that is not the case.

I know Julio Lugo is our shortstop. But, I also realize Lugo sucks Looks like Lowrie will get his chance to earn the job. We will see what happens in the offseason.

i like lowrie but i could definitely see an upgrade, lugo or not.

bay is a better baseball player than manny, ill miss manny, but god, enough was enough

love to see us find some more power for next years line up, help make up for manny being gone, though bay can possible replace most of the production, if not power and overall hitting
