Scott Boras, the agent for catcher Jason Varitek, is reportedly using the deal Jorge Posada signed with the Yankees last winter as a benchmark for his client.

"It’s probably representative, age-wise," Boras said of the four-year, $52.4 million deal Posada inked, "and it’s also representative of what a player on a winning team (is worth). You’re not going to have many catchers who have the performance levels and a 60 percent winning percentage on a franchise and have won two world championships and caught four no-hitters. The idea of it is that there just aren’t many in the marketplace that can lead a club like Jason Varitek and that’s going to be his value."

bahahahaha, oh Boras. You're great at what you do but no one's buying anything close to this one.

It was an overpay/career performance deal when Posada got it, and at least he was coming off of one of the greatest offensive catching seasons ever.

I'd really give it up to Boras if he can pull this one off. I just hope it's not in Boston that it happens.

I love 'Tek, but not for that much money. The guy is an automatic out at the plate and he can't throw baserunners out anymore. Good defense behind the plate and calling a game aren't worth that much...

Well, Tek and I have something in common, because I want the same thing and we both are not getting it.
