http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/8816 ... in-Burnett In early September, a rival executive told me that the Red Sox were planning a major push for right-hander A.J. Burnett if he became a free agent.
The Red Sox indeed are interested in Burnett, according to major-league sources.
With this and the talked about lugo-willis deal. Is theo trying to acheive the marlins pitching staff of 03?
I would rather have lowe. Sure he is older, but he might be cheaper.

Jesus, you're right. Don't forget Penny and Pavano are out there too.
The guy I'd really like off that 03 team is Lee though

Do you think they are just trying to get the Yanks to vastly overpay by pursuing him? He's good when he's healthy but I'd rather not take the risk.

Burnett does have filthy stuff and if he can stay healthy he can be a great pitcher for this team. I might be with CC on this one and rather look to see what Lowe would be getting instead.

Tony Maz in today's Herald has a good point about this and basically says it doesn't work that way with FA signings. In a nutshell, he says the Yankees have more money than god and pushing up the price on a guy is not important when they can pay whatever. If it were a trade, where the Yanks give up prospects, then they drive up the price, but not money. Here is the link to the article.
