Seems like a good deal for both. Nice to see Lester will be around for quite some time.

Smart move. Give Theo credit that he keeps the young guys and builds a core around home grown players and locks them up when they are pretty young. We now have Lester under out control for a long time. Its only 6 million per season also, which is quite a bargain b/c very soon he could be the best lefty in the American League. I shudder at the thought of what Lester would have made on the free agent market if the Sox hadn't locked him up now.

He hasn't taken the physical yet. Atleast that's what McAdams was saying.

The one year deal was the standard contract that he signed. I think he just missed Super Two status so he wasn't eligible for arbitration. Even though he's still under the Sox control, they need to give him a new contract before the season starts and it's usually a one year deal. There's word that the official five year extension should be coming out soon. mahalo
