Pack your bags Marquis

A relatively sleepy Cubs camp exploded into a war of words Saturday when Jason Marquis said he'd rather be traded than go to the bullpen, prompting an angry response from manager Lou Piniella.

"Well, if that's the case, he can go somewhere else," Piniella said. "Win a spot in the rotation, you don't have to worry about it.

Wow drama already! Why the **** did you have to bring the angry Lou out this early in the baseball season you pathetic loser Jason? Send him and his 5.00 ERA somewhere else and bring more talent to this roster, Jimbo.

Despite this, I will try to be nice and thank Jason for the few quality starts he had last season. He actually did eat up some innings and had a good first half.

Marquis sucks. I said it midway of last season and I'll say it again...I will never watch a baseball game that Marquis is starting. I don't care who he is pitching for. He is awful.

Doesn't Boston need another pitcher? Wonder if they take Marquis for Co Co straight up?

Piniella apologizes; Marquis stands firm

March 3, 2008

Paul Sullivan wrote: Marquis said he didn't read any of the published reports on his comments or Piniella's angry reaction, in which he said the Cubs can "let him go" if Marquis felt that way. Piniella apologized on Sunday for his critical remarks. Asked if his comments were misconstrued, Marquis replied: "That's your job to figure out, not mine."

But Piniella said Marquis did not say his comments were reported inaccurately or taken out of context.

"No, not at all," Piniella said. "I overreacted to it, and that's all there is to it. I'm human, and when I'm wrong, I admit I'm wrong."

Pitching coach Larry Rothschild said Marquis knows he's being given a chance to win a spot, just as Jon Lieber, Ryan Dempster and Sean Marshall are in the mix.

Even after Piniella aplogizes, which was the right media/political move, Marquis still acts like a baby.

Ok, this guy isn't going to succeed, the Wrigley fans just won't let him.

i.e. Latoya Hawkins, Corey Patterson
