Cubs players dogging it

Post#1 » by kyrv » Thu Aug 13, 2009 8:46 pm

Cubs players dog it almost as bad as when Dusty was manager.

I loved Brenly's little rant, it has bugged me for years that these clowns can't run the few times they are asked to.

I have yet to hear from Theriot or Bradley as to why they were loafing - did anyone hear anything?

I have gotten the impression for years that players act like there are negative consequences for running hard, and it turning out you didn't need to. Kangaroo court fines? I don't know.

Good thing is, most teams have loafers, bad thing is, not every team loafs, so you may have a hard time winning the title if you don't try.

And I could write the same thing about the White Sox, and most other major league teams. Pet peeve of mine. ;p

these players get paid enough to play the great game of baseball. the least you could ask for is some hustle. drives me crazy also.

I love Brenly too! Would love to have him as manager. Cubs have injuries this season, but how the heck does that stop people from RUNNING.

Terry Boers said, and he may be right, playing hard is gone and not coming back any time soon. A p layer here and there, maybe even a team or two. Even the Rays last year had two players dog it, and that was in the playoffs. (One was Floyd and he's old I guess. ;p)

Worse yet, why doesn't the media just ask them, why weren't you trying/playing hard? Saving yourself for a hot date?

Soriano is loafing it in the outfield as well. He was bad in the outfield the previous 2 years but he's 10 times worse out there this year. It's almost like he isn't trying out there.

And Brenly is awesome.

I think one reason with the lack of effort is that the Cubs do not have a team leader. It appears most of the players care about me instead of the team. The Cubs also do not have an identity either. In '07 the team went out to prove themselves after a poor start and the '08 team was all about taking care of business.

And Brenley is indeed awesome. I hope we don't have a repeat of 2004 when Steve Stone was fired for justifiably criticizing the Cubs.

Stone's tweet from earlier today-
"Bob brenly is taking some heat for being honest. What a novel concept. I direct you to jacks character in a few good men. History repeats."

I doubt Brenley will be fired for this. That 2004 clubhouse was way more of a mess than this one.
