CINCINNATI -- Jason Marquis may have cost himself a spot on the Division Series roster on Sunday after getting shelled by Cincinnati while getting some work in during the third inning.
Marquis came on in relief of Ted Lilly and looked awful, turning a 4-0 lead into a 4-4 tie, He gave up four runs on four hits and a walk, forcing manager Lou Piniella to yank him after only 2/3 of an inning.
On Saturday, Piniella had said Marquis may start Game 4 of the Division Series, but would not commit to his rotation beyond Carlos Zambrano, Lilly and Rich Hill.
Marquis might get left off the playoff roster!

I don't know if you already have him on your roster
He's a possibility on my roster as of now. I guess it depends on how many pitchers you go with. With 11 pitchers its between him and Marquis. With 12 pitchers its both of them for sure. I think 11 pitchers is better, but I'm not sure that's what we'll do. If it came down between the two of them for the 11th pitcher spot I probably go with Marquis. I like Hart, but he has had relatively little time to proove much, and Marquis has been solid. Its a toss up.

I think this would be rediculous. Marquis has been a little shaky latley but still. who would be the other starter? or would we try a 4 man rotation? I dont think this is legit, This paul sullivan seems to be making up stuff just for a good story. I don't think we can have Jason off the roster. We can kind of keep him on a short leash so if the first sign of trouble we bring in some relief. But i really don't think we can keep him off becuase he is slumping as of late.

completely agree w/ you... he's good for long relief so if a starter struggles and cubs go down big early... he can pitch a bunch of innings and keep the team in the game hopefully, or even if he gives up a bunch of runs, he's saving the rest of the bullpen...

If Marquis doesn't make the roster, who is our 4th starter? Marshall who has hardly pitched the past month? Trachsel?
I guess you can go with a 3 man rotation and always have guys on short rest, but that just seems unnecessary.
Also Marquis has pitched well against the Diamondbacks.
