Schwarber is back. He hit .333/.463/.697 in AAA with 4 HR and in 10 games.

I'm looking forward to the all-star break for the first time in a long time because I need a break from this team for a few days!

Yeah. We need a couple guys to get hot and get on a good streak. Hopefully we can be on a roll going into All Star Break and then give the guys some time off to refocus.

Trade for Quintana will be huge for the rotation. I don't like giving up Eloy. Wish they would have moved Schwarber instead.

Jimenez, Cease, and others traded for Quintana. Seems like a great move with age and length of contract. Would've liked to see someone besides Cease included as he is one of the few young arms we have with potential.

so big trade, hopefully this sparks the team. seems like the front office got about everything they could hope for: good, young(ish) pitcher on a good deal for a few years and it didn't cost them anyone on the big league team

it is too bad we had to give up our two best prospects but there you go i guess

are there more moves on the horizon? do we need to make anymore?

i guess that is it for the blue chip prospects down in the minors, anything else significant would probably require one of the young guys currently on the big league roster

If they could get Sonny Gray for Schwarber that would be a nice move.

Wild game. Is it too much to hope for that they found their bats during the break?

brought out the home run bats tonight, hopefully a sign of things to come

5 HR is a nice sign...particularly Schwarber and Russell.

I still think we need pitching, but depending on Hendricks returning and returning to form it might not be as big.

unless the offense really opens up

woooooo

19 runs in two games can really ease the burden on the pitching staff

brewers keep winning so we haven't gained any ground

quintana debuts today

and i'm reading the orioles have like the worst pitching in the league so maybe this won't be a sign of things to come for the 2nd half but at least they are taking advantage and hopefully getting into a groove

Baltimore is a bad team and their pitching is bottom 5 in baseball. Good teams are supposed to beat up on bad teams. So while you can say Baltimore is bad the Cubs are doing what they are supposed to do against bad teams. After Baltimore the Cubs go to Atlanta to play another bad team then they get the Cardinals, White Sox and Brewers to finish off the month. If the Cubs get going they could be in first place in the Central at the end of the Brewers series. If they aren't getting going they will likely finish the month in 3rd place behind the Brewers and Cardinals.

More important than the bats, which we all believe will get going, was Arrieta with another solid start. The 4.65 ERA from the starters has hurt more then the offense just being middle of the pack. A healthy Hendricks and the addition of Qunintana should help with that. If Lester, Arrieta and Lackey and pitch up their normal standards it could be a very good 2nd half and playoff run.

quintana with the fantastic start, already paying dividends

offense shows up again in a big way, first 3 game winning streak all year plus a road sweep. back over .500 on the year and the brewers lost so 4.5 games back.

lets keep it going cubs!

That 9th was stressful, but a 4 game winning streak!!! We need a solid out from Lackey.
