Samardzija, Takatsu among Cubs' cuts
http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=151327
MESA, Ariz. - Pitchers Jeff Samardzija and Shingo Takatsu were among seven rosters cuts made by the Cubs Tuesday morning.

Samardzija was optioned to Class AA Tennessee and Takatsu was granted his unconditional release.

In addition, the Cubs optioned infielder-outfielder Jake Fox and pitcher Juan Mateo to Class AAA Iowa. Pitchers Ed Campusano, infielder Luis Figueroa and catcher J.D. Closser were sent to the minor-league camp.

The spring roster now stands at 42 players.

Cubs down 1-0 in the 3rd against Oakland.

OK, kids, I'm back. I saw the Cubs on Monday, but my view isn't that complete because road teams rarely take a full roster. Soriano was not there. Rich Hill just couldn't throw his curve for strikes, something he has to rely on to be successful. Lee's power still hasn't been found. Ramirez looked pretty good at the plate but brutal on defense. There were about three instances in which he had the ball but just had no idea what to do with it with runners on base. Kept an inning alive for the Brewers single-handedly. Fukudome looked waaaaaay off. Dave Bush's fastball looks faster because of his curve ball, but Fukudome was getting blown away by Bush's fastball. I mean, he looked completely incompetent on Monday.

This game was on TV for you guys though, so whatever. Sucks to be back, it was beautiful there.

Howry got whacked for a dinger today. He's had a shaky spring and always sucks in the early months.. Hopefully he is out of contention for the closer race.

I hope Woody gets the closer job. I like Marmol as our 7th inning guy because last year he always came in during tough situations and got us out of them. He also is effective pitching more than one full inning. If you give up runs earlier in the game then you have more time to get back those runs you gave up. One half of an inning doesn't always do the job.

Z threw a 1 hitter in 6 walking 2, striking out 6. Wood gets his first save. Soriano goes 3-4 with 1 rbi in the 2 hole. Cubs win 4-1

kerry wood is scratched for todays outing cause of a stiff back. lou is saying its nothing serious. saying its nothing to do w/ his shoulder or arm.

if dumpster doesn't get a spot in the starting rotation what are we going to do with him? It doesn't sound like he's in the race for closer even though he's been our closer the past two seasons. It's almost like he either gets a spot or we dumpster him
