I think they got pretty good value for a 3 month rent a pitcher.

Olt...2nd ranked prospect in Texas system. Third base which is still a bit of a hole in our farm system. Down year in 2013 but may be the only reason we could get him...has played far better the past 10 games since they properly diagnosed his vision problem (blocked tear duct - using eye drops). More hitting depth in our farm system. Stockpile stockpile stockpile...

Edwards...might immediately be the best pitcher in the Cubs farm system. Single A...a few years from the majors...need more of this type pitcher in the Cubs farm system.

Grimm...major league arm...still young enough that he could be better than he has showed this year. Pitching depth...

1 or 2 more player to be named.

All that for 12 more starts from Garza...imo a great deal.

"either one or two players to be named. By Sept. 1, the Cubs will choose between one high-end prospect or two lesser ones."

If the Cubs were smart (yeah lets not make fun of this) Olt would start at 3B on the Cubs. Grimm would be in the starting rotation on the cubs, and Edwards should start at AA.

Overall a solid trade, and I hope we continue to see more solid moves like this.

Some fun stuff on CJ Edwards.

Got this froma guy on NSBB. For pitchers in ALL the minors with at least 80 IP:

Edwards leads the entire minor leagues in FIP
Edwards leads the entire minor leagues in HR/9
Edwards is 3rd in the entire minor leagues in ERA
Edwards is 3rd in the entire minor leagues in K/9 and K%
Edwards is 3rd in the entire minor leagues in BAA

There's a good argument that he's been the most dominant starter in the entire minor leagues this year.

Now...the guy has a really, really thin frame, and a questionable changeup, which is why a lot of scouts doubt he can keep this up as he gets closer to the bigs. But damn, he's been incredible.

as a rangers fan, id say we gave up to much, you're also getting back ramirez most likely who's bounced back this year. you'll likely end up between either he or grimm with one or 2 back of the rotation guy who can eat innings

as for olt, i dont hate that we parted w/him b/c his value's been heading south since he was called up last year. having said that, his #'s look bad this year b/c he dealt with a vision problem the 1st month of the season which resulted in him striking out a sh*t ton. he'll always strike out way to much but since he took about 6 weeks off and corrected the vision and came back he's rocking over an .800 ops i believe.

he's also believed to be pretty slick w/the glove (but was never gonna supplant beltre at the hot corner)

all in all this deal could really bite the rangers in the ass if we miss the playoffs and dont re-sign garza since the new cba is f*cked up and we'd be left w/no draft pick compensation
