I don't mind the Vitters pick either.

Power 40 65 Swing plane allows for plus average and power.
Plate Discipline 40 55 Will allow to help hit for a high average.
Running Speed 40 40 Home to first time: 4.4 sec
Base Running 45 45 Speed will keep below average.
Fielding Range 55 60 Above average and will only get better.
Arm Strength 50 50
Arm Accuracy 40 50 Can improve with pro instruction and better mechanics.
Fielding Instincts 55 60 Above average and will only get better.
Feel for Game N/A N/A

Physical Description: Body (6-2, 195) will get much stronger, thicker with age. Long arms, wide back. Needs more lower half. Similar to Gary DiSarcina.

Batting Stance: Great stance. Approach/balance and position are solid.

Ultimate Role: Middle

Draft Estimate: 1st round (high)

Summary: A very advanced HS bat that will be above average both with average and power at the ML level. His swing plane through the zone is great. Tremendous bat speed. Has strength now and will get much stronger with maturity. Arm/glove are playable at 3B and might surprise in future with work and instruct. Brother is in the minor leagues with Oakland.

First number is his "current grade," second number is what experts project for him.

80 Hall of Fame Caliber
Among the best ever. Should be getting out very, very sparingly. Johan Santana

Hopefully he turns into David Wright.

Anyone know who we're looking at @ #48?

Best pitcher available I'd assume.

Jordan Zimmerman perhaps?

Passed on Matt Harvey & Burgess for a catcher who has the potential to be a good backup.

This is why we're the Cubs and our farm system is pathetic.

Great. Backup catcher. The only other C in our system with a chance at the majors is Soto...another backup-quality catcher.

Look, if we wanted a catcher, we should have taken my boy from Tech. If not, we should have just taken the BPA with the next pick. It just seems like a waste.

Drafting College players who can barely put up an .800 ops with a metal bat.

Real smart.

What a terrible draft except for Vitters.

After selecting Josh Vitters with the third pick overall in Thursday's amateur draft, the Cubs selected Auburn catcher Joshua Donaldson with the 48th pick, Anthony Thomas, a second baseman from Florida State, with the 97th pick and Darwin Barney, a shortstop from defending national champion Oregon State, with the 127th pick.
