i dont know what we're planning on doing with him......we already have about 7 capable outfielders

jones
murton
pie
floyd
ward
fox
derosa

and now apparently you can add monroe to that list

Ward will probably stay as a role player. Fox will be sent back down. Derosa plays 2nd.

And you forgot to add Alfonso. Make that 8 outfielders!

Pretty decent move when you see the lefty/righty splits, especially when you figure they got him for free. Hopefully Lou doesn't get carried away and play him against righties.

edit: although, I'm not sure why they didn't just get Wily Mo Pena...he's younger, has upside, and hits lefties just as well.

Yep. I was asking for Mo Pena when the Sox put him on waivers.

Despite his .222 average he has 11 home runs which is 3 less than Derrek Lee. Plus we ripped the Tigers off.

Hendry got the better end of a deal? I don't like it, or believe it until I see it.

I think he made this move because Monroe can hit lefties.
He will be a key bat coming off the bench like Ward.

Unlike basketball, in baseball I get annoyed without consistency. I would like to see a constant lineup and/or outfield everyday. It's jsut a pet peeve.

RHP
Soriano-
Jones
Floyd

LHP
LF- Soriano
CF- Pie
RF- Monroe

Daryle Ward, Jake Fox and Derosa are not everyday outfielders so scratch them off. Felix Pie will be going back to the minors soon. Most likely Pagan will move to the 60 day DL and the Outfield Rotation will be Jones. Murton, Soriano and Floyd with Ward and Dero as emergency outfielders.

I know he's sucked this yr (he's on my dynasty league team) but he's supposed to be part of my future and the guy can't do anything in the minros to prove himself anymore.

The guy is extremely talented and if the Cubs just told him that he's the starting CF and he didn't have to worry about being benched all the time he'd probably play alot better.

Do any of you think Felix should just be given the job? He's not a defensive burden so I don't see the problem with playing him day in and day out. He's done all that he can in AAA all he needs is to adjust and he'll be fine.

The fact that our best prospect is being used as a pinch runner currently is pathetic.

Pie should play vs RHP not LHP.

In 07 Craig Monroe is batting .302 against LHP with 96 ABs
against RHP he is .190 with 247 ABs.

He has 5 of his 11 homers batting against LHP along with 22 of his 55RBIs have come against LHP.

Remember hes only had 96 ABs against LHP vs. 247 ABs against RHP.

Not a bad part time guy for platooning against LHP.

If ya guys missed my post at the end of page one... If these stats don't tell ya why Jimbo traded for this guy then I don't know what does.

He'd be perfect to platoon with guys like Jones, Pie, Cliff against the left handers.

Monroe looked good at the plate yesterday... he looked intimidating too. Hopefully he tees off of Davis today.

Monroe: Always A Big Fan Of The Cubbies
Chicago Tribune - It was only a year ago that Craig Monroe was living the high life, playing an instrumental role in Detroit's storybook run to the World Series.

"I can't say anything bad about the Tigers' organization," Monroe said. "I had an excellent time there and I felt they gave me an opportunity to play and show Major League Baseball and myself what I can do.

"I've always been a big fan of the Cubbies. Back home in Texas, getting a chance to watch these guys on WGN ... Just to put this jersey on feels good."
