So now we play Cincy next huh? So once again how can a team wildly out of the playoff chase plus ailing several key injuries beat a team that is playoff bound?

Easy... C-U-B-S

This would be worse than 2004.

No team in baseball history has ever lost a 3.5 lead in the last week of the season and missed the playoffs. One team did it and won a one-game playoff IIRC.

I said that mainly because Cincy is the team that spoiled it for us in 2004. That year they were also way out of the race and really bitten by the injury bug.

So you are comfortable with getting swept by the last place Florida Marlins?

And continuing on with this thread for future reference:
The Cubs are once again losing to the Marlins. 3-1.
Cubs are trying to avoid a sweep by the last place Florida Marlins.

Unless we plan on seeing the Marlins in the playoffs I don't give a ****. We're still making the playoffs.

You've grown to despise me? 'cause I'm a pessimist. Or, depending on how you look at it, a realist. But I've suffered for this team as much as anyone out there. Probably have suffered a lot more than most of the guys on this board. And IMO, the Cubbies clinched in part b/c of fans like me who refuse to tempt the baseball gods by getting too happy too soon. ;-)

Say what you will, but baseball breeds and nurtures superstitious types. Mark Fidrych, Turk Wendell and me: it's not just a coincidence.
