None of this makes sense.

We already have an above-average 2nd baseman signed to a very reasonable contract.

We need a SS. Badly. I'll trade our pitching for that, not another 2nd baseman. Hendry always has a hard-on for 2nd basemen. Remember when we had like 5 on the roster in 2006?

I agree it makes no sense and there is no way Pie is involved. We are already hurting in the outfield, why would we trade our defacto starter. I am totally fine with a deal including Veal/Patterson/Cedeno/another prospect.

I could see us dealing a lot of the farm this winter. We are two yrs into our new guy and Im sure he knows what we are going to get from the old regimes prospects.

The truth is the cubs havent had a uber prospect pan out in decades. The closest thing is a 3-4th starter in Hill and a borderline everyday guy in Theriot.

Dont deal people that are playing a role now.

Speaking of shortstops, I have been wondering if Figgins/Roberts can play there. I know Roberts did years back, but I question his range. But from what I have heard, the Cubs are not looking for a shortstop.

Rotowire:
The Baltimore Sun believes the Cubs could be offering Sean Gallagher and Matt Murton in return for Brian Roberts.
That's not nearly as attractive as the packages ESPN was kicking around. We like Murton, but he's not a difference maker, and Gallagher lacks top-of-the-rotation upside. The Orioles have no reason to move Roberts unless it gets them a top talent, and neither Gallagher nor Murton qualifies. Felix Pie does, but he's not on the table right now, says the Sun.

doesnt make sense to bring in Roberts to play 2B, if we bring in Roberts he has to play SS. Are we really going to make DeRo a Utility guy?

No, I think Derosa has earned his spot at second base. We need improvements from SS and CF/RF. And probably a decent SP too.

I think Figgins can. Roberts only has when the Orioles SS was injured one year, would be a big gamble to guess he still could. For what it's worth, I really like Roberts bat. He takes walks, has good power for a middle infielder and steals a ton of bases. Just not a good fit for our team right now.

On Cubs.com, Carrie Muskrat keeps calling Roberts an "infielder", not a 2nd baseman. This isn't an accident. I think the Cubs scouts truly believe Roberts can play SS.

If that's true, he would be a HUGE addition. Pretty much the perfect guy to have at the top of the lineup.

according to the internets, Roberts played 51 games at SS when he first came up in 2001. he made 14 errors in those 51 games, although his RF wasn't bad.

I'm thinking this whole 2B thing is maybe to move DeRosa back to supersub, and possibly be our 4th OF. he might even end up starting if Pie doesn't work out this year.

anyway, as I've said before, I'd much rather the cubs expend their resources on a power corner outfielder. if jason bay is on the block, why aren't the cubs in on him?

Jim Hendry is a moron if this is true.

Now I don't think any of those players are very good or will be, the Cubs could derfinitely get more. And why in the world should I believe a text message some guy got?

I just got a text from my buddy and he said this rumor is B.S. :D

I am reading through that Orioles forum and one of their insiders (The guy that broke the news about Tejada) said Roberts to the Cubs is just about a done deal.

Link: http://forum.orioleshangout.com/forums/ ... ost1138163
Just spoke with my guy, this is very true. Bedard and Roberts "should" be gone by the end of the week. Roberts to Cubs.

Bedard to the Reds has heated up but the M's are very active as well, either way my guy gives the strong impression Bedard will be going by the end of the week to one of M's or Reds. Roberts to the Cubs is as close as being a done deal without actually saying " done deal".

Are the Cubs giving in on Pie?

No not unless AM pulls a rabbit out of his hat at the last minute.

Roberts (SS/2B)
Fukudome
Lee
Ramirez
Soriano
Derosa (SS/2B)
Soto
Pie
Zambrano

Hopefully this report is true. Get another solid starter and possibly a left handed reliever and we are done.

Sean Gallagher, Murton and Patterson for Roberts is the deal I think.
Bickerstaff: who's up for kickball?!!
Ed Wood: Only if it's the no-pants variety.

I heard someone on the radio saying the deal is very close.

I was walking into Applebees to meet the lady friend so didn't bother listening to anymore of it.

Hopefully it happens.. Roberts is good.
