He'll be 37 next season and GM's seem to have an inflated opinion of him because of his RBI's. Sorry, I can't get on board with this one. I really don't think he'll be that much cheaper than Abreu or Dunn either, he'll just ask for less years.

Anyone else seeing the same perspective I am with this Cubs team...

Every year they make it look like they are going for one of the top FAs, but in the end they never even had a real chance.

Just recently -

Beltran
Furcal
Peavy, etc.

Out of all those guys, the one 'star' we did end up with was Soriano.
While the optimistic thoughts of next season start to pour into your head, you catch yourself saying, "Now when we have that guy going once every five"... or "Man that guy is going to look good in pinstripes.
Way to get the hype machine rolling!

Towers may be closer to Peavy deal

http://www.rotoworld.com/content/player ... 347&spln=1

I'm all for acquiring Peavy as long as Vitters isn't part of the deal and that it does not affect our plan to upgrade RF. Even if our rotation is already deep.

RIP Rich Hill
http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/ba ... 2802.story
Winter ball hasn't proven a cure for Rich Hill's wildness. The Cubs lefty appears on the verge of a release from Aragua (Venezuela) after walking 19 in 191/3 innings, resulting in a 7.45 ERA.

Orioles appear like they are 3rd team in Peavy deal
According to the Sun, one scenario could have the Cubs sending Felix Pie to Baltimore for Garrett Olson, who would become part of the Cubs' package for Peavy. The Orioles once targeted Pie during the Brian Roberts talks, while the Padres wanted Olson for Khalil Greene. No deal is imminent. The authors add that acquiring Pie would not affect the Orioles' pursuit of Mark Teixeira, even if some current team members lose playing time.

Realgm also reports that Towers told ESPN he had total confidence that Hendry would find a third team and get Peavy. Good news.

Why would the Orioles want Pie when they have Adam Jones?

Andy Macphail had a man crush on Pie last offseason so I guess Baltimore could move either one to right field. Adam Jones is a better version of Pie already.

O's hangout already has fifteen pages on this. Some of them want Marquis from us. Are they delusional or what? Did they see the same pitcher as we did? But if they want him, let them have him. Some of them also think Roberts could be flipped here. They also think that Luke Scott or Jamie Walker could be flipped here as well as Olsen. But we can't read too much into the same people that guaranteed us we had Brian Roberts.

Ken Rosenthal on Peavy talks: Jake Peavy to the Cubs is still being explored despite complications: The Cubs are being sold. Ryan Dempster was re-signed for 4 years, $52MM. The Padres are trying to include a third party to net the package GM Kevin Towers is seeking. If this happened then the Cubs would need to move Jason Marquis. Rosenthal suggests the Padres could take him if the Cubs ate around $3MM of his $9MM owed next season, or the Cubs could deal him and cash to another team (Rosenthal suggests the Rockies, Reds, or Giants). Rosenthal also backs the rumors of the Orioles involvement as the third team and having interest in Felix Pie.

The O's are not pressured into making a deal. If anything, with the Orioles involved, it helps make the trade happen quicker.

I would not be surprised if Khalil Greene and Felix Pie go to Baltimore. Maybe Jason Marquis as well.

Peavy and Luke Scott go to Chicago.

Garrett Olson and other pieces go to San Diego.

From what I've been reading Vitters may be part in any sort of deal, which would terrible. But if this team can win a World Series then I would be fine with trading him.

Apparently Derrek Lee blocked a trade to the AL because he had a no-trade clause.

I don't know if this relates to Peavy at all but it does mean something. What was Hendry's plan? Barfpauir?

Maybe signing Teixeria? That would be a dream scenario.

That would be phenominal. Get Peavy, Dump Marquis, and sign Texiera? Sign me up.

I have a feeling any deal involving the Orioles won't get done.
