HOORAY!

I wonder why yall lost interest in him?

i think we should go after iguchi first, than matsui. both would be major upgrades over burke.

Another stupid Kaz update. :noway:

Houston Chronicle
It seems that the Astros and Matsui aren't quite as close to a deal as Tracy Ringolsby and Richard Justice indicated last night, so maybe the Cubs could still steal him away. Wolf indicated last year that he preferred the West Coast, and given similar offers, he could choose to stay in California.

Would you agree that the Cubs have already improved this offseason just by the subtractions of Monroe, and of course, Jacqueee Jones?

And having the division rivals sign Jason Kendall is also a big improvement for us.

Rotowire:
Felix Pie went 0-for-3 on Tuesday, dropping his DWL average to .210.
He's fanned 14 times and has a 602 OPS in 62 at-bats. The Cubs have cleared the way for Pie to become their center fielder next year, but they probably will want some insurance beyond Eric Patterson. If they land Kaz Matsui or another infielder, perhaps they'll give Ryan Theriot a look there.

Angels get Torii Hunter
http://www.latimes.com/sports/baseball/ ... &cset=true
The Angels pulled off their second stunner of the week late Wednesday night, signing free-agent center fielder Torii Hunter to a five-year deal that is believed to be worth about $80 million.

Numerous teams, including the Dodgers, Texas Rangers, Chicago White Sox, Atlanta Braves, Kansas City Royals and Washington Nationals, were in hot pursuit of the former Minnesota Twins star, and the Angels seemed set in center field with Gary Matthews Jr., who is entering the second year of a five-year, $50-million contract.

But Tony Reagins, the Angels rookie general manager, placed a call to agent Larry Reynolds on Tuesday, and a deal for the former Minnesota Twins star, which will be finalized pending a physical, came together rapidly.

80 million? WTF

This probably means Gary Matthews Jr. will be part of a deal for Cabrera. Wow imagine an Angels team with Hunter, Vlad, and Cabrera and add their great pitching staff to that.

http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd ... &fext=.jsp

The White Sox and Scott Linebrink have agreed to a four-year, $19 million deal, ESPN 1000 in Chicago is reporting.
Sort of a bad break for the Brewers, as they'll have to settle for a second-rounder to go along with their supplemental first-round pick. As horrible as their pen beyond Bobby Jenks was last season, it figured that the White Sox would bring in one of the top free-agent setup men this winter. This may add some fuel to the rumor that the White Sox will trade Jenks for a center fielder -- Melky Cabrera has been mentioned -- but we doubt that will happen. Linebrink figures to give up a lot of homers moving to the AL Central and U.S. Cellular Field. Still, he'll be a durable and fairly reliable setup man, likely for the life of the deal.

This is a horrible deal for the White Sox imo, they overpaid for this guy who will not be that efficient anyways.

At least it takes another bullpen arm away from the Brewers.

MickeyDavis on the Brewers board said Cordero is 90% gone and Ruben mentioned there that the Brewers are interested in 38 year old Troy Percival.
Looks like it is our division to lose next year.

Yeah, the Brewers made their pitch to Cordero and if he hasn't signed with them yet you know he is serious about looking at other options.

As far as Percival is concerned, I just heard 1250am (Milwaukee Sports radio) had a report that the Brewers are 1 of 5 teams interested in signing Percival.

It's obviously very early in the post-season, and anything can happen, but so far the Brewers have only gotten worse and the Cubs have pretty much have made no improvements nor have they gotten any worse. It'll be fun to watch how everything unfolds.

http://www.realgmbaseball.com/src_wiret ... r_cordero/
FoxSports - The Cincinnati Reds, making their first big acquisition of the Dusty Baker era, have reached a preliminary agreement with free-agent closer Francisco Cordero on a four-year, $46-million contract, major-league sources say.

The deal, which is pending a physical, includes a club option for a fifth year that can bring the total value of the package to $57 million.

The Brewers, who are on the verge of losing setup man Scott Linebrink to the White Sox, offered Cordero a four-year, $42 million contract, sources say.

Nothing is going right for the Brew Crew this offseason.

I would expect some moves to go down in the next few days. It has been all quiet on the Cubs front the last few days, and it was expected that a Fukudome decision would come soon after Thanksgiving along with possible other moves.
Cough cough, Kaz? -Throws up
