So according to him:
1) Cedeno
2) Gallagher
3) Veal
4) ?
That's already too much. If the 4th player has any value at all, this trade is a ripoff.
Roberts is a marginal upgrade over DeRosa, and he's got this steroid mess all over him. His SLG shot up 140 points from 2004 to 2005, then dropped back 100 points in 2006. Fishy?
If his "clean" level was 2004, he's worse than DeRosa. And last time I checked, the Cubs' starting pitching is not a strength.
At worst, Gallagher and Veal could be competent bullpen guys very soon, where we have a lot of aging or injury-prone pitchers right now.

I agree.
Jimbo is getting barebacked here with out lube. This could be an ugly, ugly trade.
Veal had an embarrassing year last year, but has great stuff and if he ever fixes his mechanics is a stud.
Veal + Gallagher should not be packaged together unless we're bringing in a real STUD. Not Brian Roberts, although I like him.
Cedeno, Gallagher or Veal, and a marginal prospect. Get it over with.

I was reading on another board somewhere that the O's are asking for Ceda. If this is true I tell McPhail to go **** himself and have a nice day. I just know in the back of my head that Jimbo is going to eff this trade up and end up giving away a good prospect or two. This stupid deal is taking way to long. Lets just move on and solidify our bench.

This morning it was reported that the Cubs had two scouts at the Orioles' spring game yesterday to watch Brian Roberts.
Now, several people have written in to let us now that Bruce Levine of ESPN 1000 is reporting that Peter Angelos has given Andy MacPhail the green light to trade Roberts. It has long been rumored that Angelos might have been holding up the trade to the Cubs because of his personal affection for Roberts. With Angelos' blessing, this deal may finally happen in the next few days.
