Well that takes them out of the Fukudome hunt.

They should trade Andre Ethier. He deserves to start but probably won't now.

Cubs might trade Matt Murton for Mark Teahan.

"The Cubs are talking to former Pirates GM Dave Littlefield about joining the organization in an advisory capacity. Littlefield was fired by Pittsburgh this season and replaced by Neal Huntington."

Um...this would only help the team if we did exactly the opposite of whatever Littlefield suggests.

Maybe the Cubs will give a job to Littlefield as a thank-you for basically giving us Aramis for free.

790 AM in Houston is reporting that the Astros are close to acquiring Miguel Tejada from the Orioles for Adam Everett, Chris Burke and a pitcher.MLB.com's sources Tuesday were reporting that the chances of an Astros-Orioles deal had dropped to "zero," so we'll remain skeptical until further confirmation comes along.

Rotowire:
Sources told FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthat that, although the two sides have discussed a trade, the Orioles and Astros are not close to a Miguel Tejada trade.
The Astros apparently believed a trade was possible Wednesday night, telling at least two other clubs that they were on the verge of a major deal. They were apparently working on a four-team trade at the time. Rosenthal doesn't believe an offer of Chris Burke, Adam Everett and a pitcher would be nearly enough for Tejada. The Orioles, though, may have to come down on their price if they really hope to rebuild.

Your team is going to be just as bad unless you make a drastic move.

Seriously they have no bullpen and Oswalt. They lost the heart of their team to retirement and just added a guy that up until this season was labeled a bust, and if a breakout year is batting .260, then just wow. Astros have gotten much worse.

Pence, Berkman and Lee isnt going to get it done.

actually we added depth in the pen when we added geoff geary, villereal, and brocail, plus we have sarfarte, and qualls.

and i agree with ya, lee, pence and berkamn isnt gonna get the job done. so thats why we added more pieces in the offense.

2007 everyday lineup

2b biggio
cf pence
1b berkman
lf lee
3b wigginton
rf scott
c ausmus
ss everett

2008 probable lineup

cf bourn
2b matsui
cf pence
1b berkman
lf lee
3b wigginton
c towles
ss everett

i think we improved the offense

Troy Patton is going to be good but if you guys want Tejada I bet the Orioles are going to demand him in a trade.

Alderson also confirmed the Padres have made an offer to Japanese outfielder Kosuke Fukudome, calling it "one of the two or three biggest offers" in team history.

The Padres' biggest offer ever was $60 million over six seasons to Kevin Brown, who left after San Diego's 1998 World Series season to take the Los Angeles Dodgers' offer of $105 million for seven years, then the biggest deal in baseball history.

"We didn't make a $60 million or a $50 million offer," Alderson said.

Alderson wouldn't be more specific than to say the offer is somewhere between the $30 million given to Brian Giles in December 2005 and the pending $52 million extension for Cy Young Award winner Jake Peavy, which will be the biggest deal in team history. Alderson, hired in April 2005, said he wasn't aware that a $34 million extension given to Phil Nevin in November 2001 had been the previous biggest contract in club history.

Fukudome's agent, Joe Urbon, didn't immediately return a phone call Thursday evening.

"Only the agent knows what's out there," Alderson said. "We don't know what the offers are or how many other offers there may be."

The 30-year-old Fukudome is regarded as one of the best outfielders in Japanese professional baseball. He was a key member of the Japanese team that won the inaugural World Baseball Classic in March 2006. The semifinals and title game were played at the Padres' Petco Park.
