He's "not that good at baseball" prone, which is what I'm more concerned about.

And Jim Hendry running out and signing Dempster cost us Jake Peavy.

You just gotta love Jimbo's consistency.

Right field still needs to be addressed. If the Peavy deals ever start again it will probably because we have that hole filled.

I knwq Jimbo was going to do this. Now we will get some Neifi Perez type and call it a day.

Dempster will probably suck after his miracle yr and we will lose in 5 to the Mets.

So we dump our All-Star closer for no apparent reason and trade one of our top prospects for some scrub to replace him who doesn't make a whole lot less money then Wood is asking for all the while resigning a guy who had a miracle year last year but whom everyone was screaming at to not come back before last year for completely sucking for two years, albeit in a different role.

Doesn't appear like look like I can give Jimbo a job well done at the Vegas meetings, yet.

Didn't we just commit a long-term deal to our "supposed" right fielder for the next few years? Unfortunately, I think we're stuck starting him in our OF, somewhere. There's no way he can be as bad as he was second half of last year, is there?

Bradley is still the player in which the Cubs are most interested and a source told me yesterday that Bradley wants to play for the Cubs.

Get this deal done Hendry.

Mets, Cubs talking Marquis trade

LAS VEGAS -- The Mets and Cubs are discussing a trade that would send Jason Marquis home to New York.

Marquis, a Staten Island native, would fill a need in the Mets' rotation at a reasonable cost. The Cubs are offering to pay some of Marquis' $9.5-million 2009 salary to defray the cost. The Mets could also consider sending reliever Scott Schoeneweis to the Cubs to further offset Marquis' salary.\

Hopefully we can dump Marquis, sign Bradley, then re-spark the Peavy talks reasonably quick. I really want Peavy on this team, bad.

I dont' know more than the average joe on Milton Bradley. Someone wanna fill me in?

I know he's a switchy, use be a more-than-average, good fielder, has some speed-nothing spectacular, was an all star last year.

Would he play CF?

The guys hasn't played CF since 2005, and since then, he's torn his acl on that stupid ump arguing incident.
Last year he mostly batted while DHing, and prior to that...mostly injured in 07, primarily in RF in 2006.

I remember his mind boggling highlight catch, stealing a HR.

Milton Bradley is a VERY talented hitter who tries hard every time out and can flat out hit. The two question marks (and granted big ones) are injury related and character related. He has had problems controlling his temper before and he has played over 100 games in a season three times in the last eight (03, 04, 08).

He can flat out rake though. Last year, in Texas, he 22/77/78 and .321/.426/.563. He can play spot CF, but really is a corner outfielder and doesn't have a great arm but adequate.

If Bradley were to become a Cub and stayed healthy, I would predict about 100-110 games played with about 20-30 PH chances. I bet he would play RF 90% and CF 10%.

Phillies sign Ibanez to a 3/30 million contract. Yes! Thank God we dodged that bullet. He's 36, horrible defensively and not even that great of a hitter for a corner OF. I'm guessing Bradley will get a similar deal. Get it done Hendry, now.

The one positive about the Peavy debacle is that we still have Josh Vitters. I'm not nearly as upset as most Cubs fans. Going into the offseason, a right fielder was the most pressing need. If we sign Bradley, things can still be salvaged.

Besides, Harden is better than Peavy. If we had gotten Jake, there's no chance we could've re-signed Rich after next season. Harden/Zambrano/Dempster/Lilly/Marshall is still one of the best rotations in the league.

Holy hell, 10 Mil!!! I'd like to think Ibanez is a safe signing 'cause of his consistency, but the guy is old. 37. He absolutely sucks in the field. You can't depend on anything from him there. Geez, I hope this doesn't drive up the price of MB.

Thanks DT for the info.

Bradley is the only free agent option I like for right field. I think he can get a deal similar to Ibanez's, which would be even smaller than Fukudome's contract.

Return to Chicago Cubs
