It is. But I just noticed it and had nothing else of interest to write about. And I'm a pretty lame guy anyways. That, and considering it took over 5 years to muster up 2000 posts, and compared to some (SportsWorld) that a is pretty tough thing to do. It's like getting caught stealing twice in the same inning.

Houston Astros General Manager Ed Wade has contacted the agent for Mark Prior about possibly bringing the right hander to Houston, according to the Houston Chronicle

I'm sure the Astros will sign him, their GM seems to be fixated with getting players with big names. Who needs these role players they are trading away? Why keep Qualls when he's not a house hold name?

The Padres acquired the ever declining Jim Edmonds. I'm happy about this becuase he always seems to kill us. The Cardinals got a great prospect in David Freese though, possibly Rolen's replacement.

Kuroda just signed with L.A. So that means that the Dodgers are more than likely out of the hunt for Bedard. That being said, it looks like he might be getting moved to the Reds. Does anyone think that the Cubs might try to get into the Bedard "sweepstakes" now along with Roberts?

I hope so. I read somewhere earlier that the Cubs were trying to do that, but that source is not likely to be considered accurate.

Later in the show, Jim Hunter said a friend of his who is a beat reporter in Chicago called him and told him that the Cubs are "dead set on getting BOTH Bedard and Roberts in a deal".

That was the source I was referring to.

Marshall, Patterson, Cedeno, Gallegher, Murton, and maybe a Pie.

I'd think Pie would have to be in there to get Bedard. Which would mean we'd need a CF.

Sam Fuld
Maybe we could move Soriano back to center and have Murton play left and Fukudome right.

I'm going out on a limb here but if that were to happen couldn't we possibly sign an Erstad or a Lofton to play center?

Lofton would be a good rental option for 1 year, he is very durable and his production hasn't decreased significantly. Cubs fans would like him here again.

Yeah, I'd be all for Lofton. Even if we don't trade Pie, he's a good backup OF that can play all three positions and get on-base. I was for getting him at the deadline last season.

Wouldn't Lofton be upset at playing backup?

He's always going to be looking over his shoulder with Pie on the cusp of starting (hopefully) really soon.

I love the idea of an insurance policy for CF, and I do agree Lofton would be a great choice, but wouldn't he be all pissy most of the year?

...The Astros would also love to get Prior, 27, in Houston, which is why they made an initial offer to him on Monday.
