Rest of the Season
The Cubs could come out to this two ways. They can use it as motivation and realize that now they got all of their anger and disappointment towards each other behind them and start to play baseball. This is a little different but you can somewhat compare this to when Ben Wallace on the Bulls violated team rules by wearing a headband. Many people thought that this woke up the team and hopefully the same will be said about the Cubs. Either this will happen or they will continue to get worse and fall into a steeper hole. The way that they played the rest of the game hopefully signifies new life for them though.

I think that is what will happen. Sadly, I am using ESPN as a reference. They said that the Cubs can't get much worse, and they are pretty much correct. The only way to go is ^.

I'm sorry, but I would never want to have a guy like Zambrano as a teammate. This guy is a classless tool who attacked his own teammate because he made an error in a game. I don't give a **** if the guy made 15 errors in a row and they lost 25-0, that's no way to act as a teammate and even as a person. Everyone gets frustrated but to blame someone else for the team sucking(and even you sucking) is pathetic. Please keep him on the Cubs and away from NY.

That isn't going to stop Cashman. He brings a ton of bad apples to the big apple every year.

I can understand Z's anger though. His team sucks, the defense yeterday was just abysmal (by everyone) and Barrett called a poor game. If you feel your defense isn't giving you a chance to pitch well and then your teammate points out the scoreboard, it would be hard to restrain yourself. And with Z's history, we shouldn't be suprised.
I don't think we need to rush and deal him though. He's a young pitcher who has looked like an ace for like 5 seasons prior to this one. Now that Marshall and Hill are in the majors, I don't think we have any minor leage guys who can take his spot in the rotation. The best play right now is to wait this out and see how it affects the team, Z and Barrett. Then make the moves accordingly.
Then again, this Cubs organization has pretty much made the wrong moves on every decision this season, so I'm not optimistic that this will resolve nicely.

Today's wiretap headline made me laugh.
"Cubs beat up each other"
Makes it sound a lot worse than it is.
Haven't we been beating ourselves up for 99 years now?
ESPN Article:
Egos, team disarray have knocked Cubs down to size

The Chicago Cubs are the worst team in baseball. This is an indisputable, irrefutable fact, as obvious as the ivy on the outfield walls or the steel trough urinals in the Wrigley Field men's bathrooms.
I was leaning that way even before Carlos Zambrano turned Michael Barrett's mouth into marinara sauce Friday afternoon in the home clubhouse. But now I'm sure. This team is a 24-man pileup of mistakes.
The Cubs might not have the worst record. Their star player might not yell, "Ha!" during games and later visit -- what did the New York Post call them? -- "jiggle joints." And they might not trail their division leader by double-digit games (yet), but it doesn't matter.

Really I'm tired of all this drama from them.
Wait, weren't you the one talking about how Cubs fans always talk about the Sox?
Seriously, if any baseball team were to relocate here in Chicago it would be the one with the smaller fanbase which would be the Sox.

Howie Schwab was on SportsNation chat today and a few questions were asked about Zambrano:
hart, kenosha wi.: schwab what will the latest cubs incident do to the team?
Howie Schwab: (12:36 PM ET ) That was unbelievable. I know there was a lot of emotion involved and Zambrano was frustrated, but there is no excuse, especially what happened after in the locker room. Barrett had two black eyes and a badly split lip...tells me Zambrano got in some good shots. I believe Zambrano will be fined heavily for this, maybe suspended. Funny, but I think the team may rally after this situation. There is talent there and this club should be better than a team near the basement.
Jeff (Chicago): Schwab, Do you think yesterday's incident ruined Zambrano's trade value?
SportsNation Howie Schwab: (12:37 PM ET ) I certainly think it hurts any trade value because teams will be concerned he's a loose cannon. That said, he is one of the better pitchers in the NL and his record is misleading because he hasn't caught a break in several outings this season.

I'm still convinced that there is a chance the brawl will end up firing up this team. There are going through what is probably going to end up being their most mentally challenging stretch of the season. A few games with some crazy things happening (Z vs. Barrett, Lou getting tossed) might just be what the team needs. We'll see.
If nothing else I'd rather take the off chance this fires them up than have then keep sleepwalking through the next couple of months playing sub .500 ball.
