We need a new manager obviously or we can keep Quade. What else needs to be done to make a winner in 2011?

We need to get Matt Murton, the hit king, back on the team!

Adam Dunn would be a nice start.

Quade's an interesting question because the team played well, but a lot of teams improve later in a season when there's no pressure. So not sure if it's an accurate assessment of his skills.

Definitely down with getting Dunn. I'm sure we'll move Fuku for pennies on the dollar. Those two moves alone is a huge improvement. We're not going to go for any big name players with Soriano still on the books and I don't think there's a way to trade him. I think our lineup next year is going to be pretty close to:
Dewitt
Castro
Dunn
Ramirez
Byrd
Soriano
Colvin
Soto

Since there is nothing to talk about...

What are your guys thoughts on moving Geo to 1b?

I don't think you should move a guy playing a premium position (C, SS, CF) unless you absolutely have to. Soto would be a below-average 1st baseman, but he has a chance to be one of the better catchers in the NL.

The only reason i would have to move Geo to 1st is if we got a defensive minded catcher that was better than Geo.

Geo ain't that bad, but he has room to improve.

According to Will Carroll, Mike Quade will be named manager next week and Ryne Sandberg will be named bench coach. Not official yet though. Just a rumor. I'm hoping this isn't true. Quade did a good job with the Cubs in meaningless games last year but I don't trust him over the course of a full season with the team and I can't see the Cubs taking the next step with him. Would rather have Ryne Sandberg or wait it out and see if Girardi wants the job.

Aramis excercised his player option this year so looks like we have one more year with him on the squad. Next offseason it's a team option for big money, doubt we excercise that.

I don't like his managerial style. Trust me, after a week with Ryno as manager people would be wanting him fired as manager. He will not be a good manager.

Not sure if anyone else wasted an hour watching that "Undercover Boss" episode like I did but here's a hilarious (and accurate) recap:
http://www.desipio.com/?p=3207

Memorable lines:
"Todd brags that “We sell 1.5 million hot dogs a year at Wrigley Field” he leaves out the fact that 400,000 of them are actually edible."

Todd is stunned that vendors have to buy their own hot dogs and then sell them on commission. Why would he know that? It’s not like he owns a Major League Baseball team.

"Todd gets to help raise the white “W” flag. That day will always be remembered around Chicago as the day the “M” flew over Wrigley."

Cubs chairman Tom Ricketts stated last week that the team’s payroll will remain flat. Knowing that, the Cubs' front office will be targeting the trade market as a way to improve on a disappointing 2010 season.

Like many teams, the North Siders have had their eye on San Diego first baseman Adrian Gonzalez, who can become a free agent after the 2011 season.

The small-market Padres know they will not be able to afford the $15 million-$20 million per season that Gonzalez will demand as a free agent next November. That being the case, deciding when to trade their best player will be the key to the Padres’ structure in the near future.

San Diego picked up Gonzalez's $6.2 million option for 2011.

Yes please.

Gonzalez would be an awesome pick up. I'm really curious to see what kind of trades we pursue.
