Series Thread: Cubs Vs Pirates April 1st-3rd

Post#1 » by mattbulls » Wed Mar 30, 2011 6:21 pm

I figure we can just do game series threads instead of game by game. If that's ok by everyone else.
If we start getting lots of post we can change back to game by game.

If the Cubs win or tie the series you get to post the next one!

Normally I'd do just one for each team but these two fools need to get off to good starts!

We have the pitching advantage in each game of this first series. A sweep would be ideal but we have to take at least 2 of 3.

I just looked up the games Pittsburgh had against the Cubs last year.

Correia 1-0 0.00ERA 1 Game
Maholm 3-1 5.54ERA 4 Games-The one start was a thrashing. He gave up 8 in 3.1 innings so that bump his ERA.
Ohlendorf 0-0 2.08ERA 2 Games-He went 1-11 last year but shut us down in both starts but didn't get run support or the decision in either.

We were horrible vs the Pirates last season we need to turn that around and take care of business vs them.

I remember us losing to Pittsburgh all the time last year.

Yeah, we had the the pirates number in previous years, but last year they had ours.

Lets start the season w/ a series win!

The Pirates used to be the team we could count on to beat, but last year it was the opposite. I'm excited for the weekend series, and hopeful to get at least 2 out of 3 from them, and then at least 2 more against AZ after that.

We did poorly against just about every team in the division, so getting off to a good start is key. I think our pitching will be fine, just hope some of the key hitters can get going early. We should take 2 of 3.

I think the best part of this season is we play Friday then Saturday. No day off in between. When we started on Monday we always had the day off on Tuesday and then played Wednesday. That Tuesday day off annoyed me.

I agree, I hated that too. I'm hoping that the weather holds up tomorrow so that they can actually play.

I like the fact that Barney is in the lineup for tomorrow. Quite a shift from what we were used to seeing under Lou.

Glad we didn't play today. Was fun not losing and watching the Cardinals and Brewers choke away late leads.

i'm diggin' the series thread instead of individual games. and i'm really excited for this season. new manager, low expectations, and lots of young talent on a fairly balanced ballclub. hopefully it will be a fun season.

Hopefully the weather holds up, and we can get this game in today. It was kind of strange watching opening day yesterday and not seeing the Cubs. Loved watching both the Brewers and Cardinals get beat though. It's just too bad that it was the Reds that beat the Brewers.

Got a good feeling about this year as well! I dont usually say that either. Oddly, this is the least excited about a baseball season a long time... I think it may have to do with the Bulls being so awesome but I still cant totally put my finger on it. Wierd.

the reason i said that was because zambrano isnt the opening day pitcher. last what 6 year he started the opening day and got humiliated every single time. i think zambrano is gonna have great year.

^^ He better. We're gonna need him if we plan on doing anything this year. My X-factors are Colvin, Castro and Cashner... If they step it up then it could be a really good year!
