Re: 2017 regular season thread
out of all the people who are potentially on the trading block, i think i'd like to have schwarber at the top of the list
i'm not as enamored with him as much as other people are, and kizz is right - the fielding is holding us back. one of the major reasons for the teams success last year was how great a defense they played, this year its just average i think. could get us a pitcher or something and free up some of the outfield logjam

They come home and beat the Cards the first game back. At least they are winning at home. They just have to get that to carry to the road.

I don't know if it is a mental thing or what the issue is, but this is a totally different team at home than on the road.

There goes the winning streak. Winning 5 out of 6 is a nice stretch after that west coast trip. They need to win this series against the Rockies who might be the biggest surprise in baseball. Who picked the Rockies to have the most wins in the NL and to be sitting on top of their division in June?

Re: 2017 regular season thread
Ill be honest with you, im starting to see a direct correlation with the cubs losing and schwarber starts.
Pretty much playing anybody else in left field probably shores up what to used to be a prolific defense.
Like john jay or hay idk WS mvp zobrist.

Re: 2017 regular season thread
Schwarber and maddon are reminding me of Kirk and Thibs.
Maddon cant help but to play him. To the point I'd rather Kyle be off the team. Lol.
I like Kyle but I dont like the cubs underperforming.
Kyle will start today vs Colorado. We are like for sure gonna lose and most likely give up more 1st inning runs. Its like fn jailbreak on our D
Schwarber is a damn experiment and the cubs are squandering a championship caliber roster losing and losing, even to bad teams , to accommodate schwarber in lf.

Re: 2017 regular season thread
Brandon Little, LHP, has the best curve in the draft class and his fastball tops out at 96. He is supposed to be good enough he could get thrown in the bullpen right away. He won't. They will try to develop him as a starter.
Alex Lange, RHP, is another mid-90s fastball and big curve pitcher. He is developing a changeup. His delivery is rough which leads to control issues. If they can fix his delivery issue he might become a starter, but he is more likely to be a bullpen arm.
Cory Abbott, RHP, has a low 90s fastball with a good slider and changeup. He also throws a curve. He is considered an over draft.

Re: 2017 regular season thread
The offense was going tonight. Please let that be them finally getting on track. It has been a frustrating season and it seems odd when I look at the standings and they are .500 and only 1 game back. It feels like it has been so much worse.

Re: 2017 regular season thread
That was a wild 9th inning. The Brewers will finish below .500 they have some very rough statistical regressions coming. I'm more worried about the Cardinals getting going, because as they regress to their statistical mean and play this year their record will improve. The Cubs should also see their record improve as their performance catches up to the underlying stats.
The Cubs have to start playing better on the road. If the Cubs finish with a .500 record on the road they should win 90 games and the division. I'm not going to start to worry until the rotation is still struggling in August. As long as they are keeping pace, only 2-3 games back, they can finish the season strong and peak for the playoffs.

Re: 2017 regular season thread
got the rubber match against the pirates, lackey looked good. rizzo and contreas continue to rake
read that this is the 15th time this year the team has been at .500 - that about says it all, consistently inconsistent
i liked the light blue the pirates were wearing this weekend
