2018 Post Season Thread

Disappointing to be tied for the best record in the league for regular season and have to host the WC game.

That said we are a team with a lot of post season experience that has had success with it's way with it's back against the wall.

Injuries to key players, starters, and relievers be damned! We overcame all of that and we'll overcome the Rockies too!

This is where that pitching depth shows. Lester being ready to go for the WC game is significant. Also having Hamels as an option out of the bullpen could end up significant if Joe opts to pull Lester early. I think going into the game with a plan of Lester for 5 innings then Hamels for 4 might be the best option. They would have to "settle" for Hendricks starting game 1 in the NLDS, but I'm not worried about any of the top 4 starting a playoff game.

Cubs have finished the season strong the last few years but this time. Pitching was an issue and its hard to make up for getting nothing out of Darvish but the bats should have been enough to still finish with a better record then Milwaukee.

Sometimes you have to sit back and remember all the suck years, a wild card game would have been a god send most any other Cubs season lol.

The offense has been the issue. A .670 OPS in September was terrible. It was 11th in the NL for the month! For the season they had a .744, 5th in the NL. They had a 3.46 ERA in September and overall they had a 3.65 ERA on the season.

the offense is just so inconsistent, barely any runs for a few games and then they'll drop like 10 and we wonder why that doesn't happen more often and its back to 1 to 2 at a time

hopefully they show up tonight. go cubs!

To me looks like the russell loss really hurt the team.
It was easy to downplay because technically javy could be a better shortstop but taking away a teams starting shortstop can have a big influence.

The cubs have to overcome this because the season is going down the tank. Lester is pitching well in the WC game, but the cubs have Zero runs

Losing Addy opened up a spot for Murphy to play everyday. They replaced Addy's .250/.317/.340 bat with Murphy's .297/.329/.471 or Zobrist's .305/.378/.440. Yea, there was a slight drop in defense with Javy shifting over and Murphy/Zobrist going to 2B, but the pitching hasn't been an issue and they had the 2nd best ERA in the NL this year and September was a great month for the pitching. Arguably, Joe being forced to replace Addy with equal defense in Javy while putting a better bat at 2B is actually more optimal.

Granted, for today's specific game Addy is better against LHP than Murphy. However, Zobrist and Bote are both better than Addy against LHP so there was still a more optimal lineup than having Addy in.

The pitching has been good for the most part. Offense has been anemic.

Into the 13th inning...pitching is carrying them.

dam, tough loss, stayed up very late to watch it last night, looking forward to next year and to see what happens in the offseason.

part of me is happy since with this loss I'm saved from watching 5-15 more games this post season, and baseball is pretty dam boring so its like I get a week of my life back here. I won't tune in for other teams until final games at best then i'll watch the WS.

pretty inconsistent i'd say, they mentioned during the game the cubs had scored the 4th most runs in the nl this year

they can score, and have but they bunch them up in games too much. its fun to have parades around the bases all day and score 10+ runs but it isn't fun to counter that with games where we don't score at all

its baffling to me how a lineup with this much talent (that we still can't field it all at one time!) can't consistently score runs

Thats a good point. Inconsistent is better term. I think some of it is lack of situational hitting, playing small ball, and manufacturing runs. I might not be correct but i thought we had more 1-0 wins than any team, but also feels like we lost a lot of those games. Tough to pick on one area when you win 90+ games but we were definitely cold down the stretch for the most part.

they kept showing a really interesting stat during the game of the teams with the most 1 or 0 run games (i think) and the cubs were second with like 39, and the other 3 or 4 teams mentioned were some of the worst teams this year
