manager search for 2020

Post#1 » by hermes » Sat Oct 5, 2019 1:45 pm

so with maddon gone, we need a new skipper.

looks like the cubs already talked with bench coach mark loretta this week, and are playing to interview joe girardi, david ross, and will venable (first base coach)

what do you guys think of the short list so far? who would you guys want?

I lean towards Girardi based on his record, you never know how the players will react to the new guy whoever it is and at this point you don't know how many personnel moves the FO is going to make and what the roster will look like.

I know the first talk was David Ross but let's go back to the Cubs not wanting to hire an inexperienced Ryne Sandberg, so he went and managed in the minors, rode the buses and then they still weren't interested. They hired Ricky Renteria who was a real baseball guy and did a decent job then cut him loose quick the minute Joe became available.

If they win another world series they picked the right guy and if they don't they made a bad call. Even Jed and Theo know that
