I like this move if so..
"May 20 Cubs manager Lou Piniella is considering making Marmol the closer and moving Ryan Dempster to the starting rotation, the Chicago Tribune reports."
I got that off Yahoo while looking at fantasy stuff.

Is that the big pitching news?

Possibly.. It would make sense.
Marmol is filthy.

It will be interested in seeing if the Cubs take a lead in the game who comes out to close this game.

I like Marmol. His pitching is nasty and Dempster would be great in the starting 5.

You can't have a closer that can't throw strikes consistently. Marmol's control is still a little wild.

Torres would like to beg the differ.

Only Lou would pull a move like this... He really doesn't care about pride, ego, legacy, or whatever etc...
Dusty on the other hand didn't want to hurt it image, therefor a move like this would be too radical for him.
If you look at Dempster's early career stats, 2000 till about 2003 before Tommy John surgery, he was pretty consistent. Not a great W-L record but his ERA is respectable and looks similiar to Ted Lilly's.
Similiar to Lilly Dempster played on a bad Marlins team, which was below mediocre, winning 79-76-79 games in 2000-02 untill McKeon came in 93 and obviously didn't favor a pitcher coming off TJ surg and never utilized him. No blame to McKeon because we all know what happened in '03.
If Demp turns out to be decent in the 5 spot for the rest of the season, winning double digit games, Lou P. looks like a genius.
Either way I think its a smart move this early into the season you can always go back to Dempster, but at least you have tried all options before the trading deadline comes up.

I've heard Lou say he would consider using the bullpen for the first 3-4 innings and using the starter for the rest of the game.

^WOW
now thats too radical, what if your starter gets rocked right away? What do you do? You need to leave options open..
then again Lou didn't hesitate to empty his bench in the last few close games.

Yeah, he said that in Tampa.

He is crazy LOL!
But I honestly wouldn't mind seeing that a few games.
I think it would be funny and I think it could really work.

LOL I remember that. Pinella used relievers to start games and starters to close them out.
