Every year its going to be there "year", but some one gets hurt, or they sign some guy for way too much money and he didnt help them enough, or a fan catches a foul ball.

Lou Piniella does not suck. He is one of the best managers in the league.

However, I don't think he was mentally ready for this job and he probably should stay retired.

It's a worse team in a couple aspects, but at least this team's offense CAN get better. Last year a lot of it was a talent problem, now it's more talented players who just suck. I'm not sure which one is worse to watch though.

It's astonishing how poorly put together this team is. It's like Hendry is running a fantasy baseball team instead of trying to get players who fit a plan or system. Just one example is the Soriano signing. When your biggest problem last year was not getting on base enough, why would you overpay for a player whose OBP is his biggest weakness? Of course he then compound the problem by sticking him at the top of the order.

I'm to the point where I think all of us could stastically prove the Cubs would win more with very simple changes, and Hendry would throw us out for "voodoo magic" or something. Does he know stats are tracked in baseball? Does he know you should make decisions based on them?

Lou is not the reason why we are losing. As I said before, sure he does make a few mistakes but with very little options to go to in the bullpen he probably has the toughest job in the MLB. He has done a good job at containing his temper this year and that may be killing us. He needs to go out and pull a Jim Leyland and publicly criticize this team.

Remember when Leyland did this last year? His team was a few games below .500 and he called out his team saying they are much better than how they are playing. After this the Tigers finished 1st in the AL Central and went on to win the ALCS before losing to the Cardinals in the World Series.

Personally, I think we are better than that Tigers team last year.

How can you say that 1/4 of the way into the season?

I thought they got off to a great start - played mediocre for a stretch and then took off again.

I think he made his comments when they were 7-7 after a loss to Oakland.

Please do not compare the Cubs to the Tigers. The Cubs would get buried in the AL Central... last year OR this year.

But... since its the NL Central, optimism shouldn't waiver just yet. The Brewers are leveling out and the division is horrible.

How bout dem Devil Rays?

Although 90 games is only half the season, its about that time you can seperate the contenders from the pretenders. You will always have your surprise, like the Astros a couple years back, but most of the real teams show up half way through.

Not too worried about the Cubs because their starting pictching has been pretty good and the baseball that has been played is pretty smart. They look different from the Dusty days.

Jacque Jones for a reliever, then I'll be confident, well only if the reliever does well obvoiusly.

how 'bout that 2006 world series?

the '06 tigers actually isn't a bad comparison, on paper. the 06 tigers just tremendously overachieved, and the 07 cubs are badly underachieving at this point. which is of course nothing new, since wrigley field has always been where careers come to die. the reverse-cardinals effect, it seems like.

The Cubs have scored more runs than they have given up which means they should be winning ballgames. It all doesn't make sense.

That's why they are the Cubs.
