I heard he wants more money then Barry Zito got. Could the cubs afford that?

Were you in a coma last offseason?

The Cubs spent $300M.

Wrigley sells out everyday - Of course they can afford it.

I'm still confident he'll be re-signed, and he still seems upbeat about the prospect of them re-signing him. No, it won't be for Zito-like money, the point of a contract extension is to get a hometown discount. He'll get more than Buehrle got, probably 5 years/~70M with a no-trade clause and maybe an option year.

Obviously, it would be a grievous mistake if he wasn't re-signed, and done so quickly. I think it was still up in the air when he wasn't pitching well and the Cubs were struggling, but those days have come and gone (fortunately).

Well here ya go treyzZz!

Daily Southtown wrote:While Barry Zito, the San Francisco left-handed pitcher who signed a seven-year, $126 million deal during the offseason, participated in a pregame practice late Monday afternoon at Wrigley Field, a guy who could command an even bigger deal was sitting at his locker in the Cubs clubhouse.

And he was predicting he would stay in that clubhouse a long time.

Cubs ace Carlos Zambrano said he was "90 percent" confident he would stay with the North Siders even though he and the team are at an impasse over a contract extension. It is believed the two sides were close to a four-year deal worth more than $70 million at the beginning of the season, but then came the announcement that the Cubs were being sold and contract extension talks were put on the backburner.

Despite Monday's comments, Zambrano said he isn't ready to sign quickly, nor is he ready to offer the Cubs a huge hometown discount.

Still, he said he thinks he will be back.

Zambrano: I want to stay
